And how are you going to compare them to each other when you have 100 to look at?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Yes - and then they score you against the essential and desirable criteria (which is why every letter and CV should be tailored). A grid is simply a list of the criteria along the top (for eg) and the applicants down the side, and they score you, total them up - with some criteria around scoring low in particular areas - and shortlist on that basis.
Obviously, not EVERY company does that, but many do.
As for deleting - if they get 300 replies, some probably do delete a lot, yes - they make an arbitrary decision. However, often they are going to generic email inboxes, and just get forwarded to the right person then deleted - without being 'opened'. So it's not always a question of deleting.
Do you tailor your CV and covering letter for every application?
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

I have never worked anywhere where they have read 100 CV's and I used to read them with the supervisor when we recruited. Only 10 at a time at most from agencies.
When they recruitied the last time they advertised on www.reed.co.uk and read up to 100 cv's only if the cover letter was sent with it. It was a junior role and was looking for somoene with no accounts experience so just looking for people who were looking for their first accounts job hence chucking away a CV from an accountant.
They got a list down to 10 people to see out of 300+ cv's received and about 100 read.
One person spent 2 weeks doing this.
How does an agency such as Hays get CV's down from over 100 when people apply? You really think the consultant sits there (when they are meant to be making ££ for the firm and getting in business) reading CV's?0 -
!!!!!!
This grid is a Person Specification.
It has a list of Essential and Desirable criteria.
Sometimes they score, sometimes they make notes.
I will be honest though. What they will do is review your CV (skim it) and only do this comparison if they think you have a chance.
If I was to say anything. Sending a CV is not applying for a job. Ringing up the recruiter and chatting about it is applying for the job. Keep yourself on their radar.0 -
So when it says apply online via this link or fill in this application form, you would call and !!!! them off? What good would that do?

Computers have perfect memory unfortunately... and they read really quickly.
By the time a real person looks at you're probably looking at 5-10 CVs... which will get cut down further by the time it actually gets to the hiring manager.0 -

No of course not - someone scans the CVs - bins the ones that don't meet criteria and score the rest long before it gets to consultant level. But that's just agencies. With direct recruitment the admin person will probably summarise the applications the same way for the recruiting manager to look at the top 10/10% - so they never get to see your details if you don't get to the top of the list.
Which is why you have to get there early and make sure your CV/application form shows how you meet all the essential or desirable criteria.
I'm not sure what point you are making - do you really not know how these things work?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
