It's a huge risk. You need money to run your own business. You need to find customers who will trust you enough to overlook your non-existent company reputation. You need to compete with existing reputable brand name companies. Competition is fierce and the recession isn't helping when customers don't really want to spend money.

I agree, and it takes a great deal of motivation and resilience to get started. All thought and no action makes me question whether the OP is the right person for such a vocation.

Regarding the word "think", don't you think that's reminiscent of that famous statue?

The Thinker, an object set in stone, could possibly be seen as more proactive than yourself.

I wonder how I got my last job if it didn't stand out.

When did you get your last job?

That don't matter when I got it.

I have - by a few agencies and my old boss
That is good, styles change and wording all the time. An out dated c.v will not get you any where, or a covering letter that we have read a million times.

"That don't matter"? Of course it does - was unemployment at an all time high at the time?

You know, I just don't get why you are STILL harbouring this misconception that I am not being "proactive" enough in my jobsearch. I have told you all - over and over and over again - that I have done EVERYTHING possible to try and get myself out of this rut. I repeat, EVERYTHING.

Has it finally sunk in yet???

Unemployment at an all time high is surely not stopping me get a job is it? :rotfl: There was me thinking it was my CV or lack of expereince.

Let me think - it was 2005 and well I guess not as I got the job 2 days after looking for a new one.

You've not though - you have today applied for voluntary work for the first time, how long have you been unemployed for? You have thought about becoming self employed, but done nothing about it. You need to stop thinking about things and start doing them.

The job market was very different in 2005. The difference between now and then is that now the employer will have countless more cv's to look through - hence why yours needs to stand out. High unemployment is not a bar to getting a job, you just need to be that much smarter about how you market yourself.

    Are you getting interviews?

Interview invites is the best gauge of your CV as that is what it is designed for. If you aren't getting interviews then you need look at amending it. There are few golden rules for CVs, hence why you get so much conflicting information. If you aren't getting interviews then mix it up.
