Well i had an interesting experience with one of the aldi "heat logs" last night.
The stove had been on for a couple of hours and, as it needed a refill, i decided to pop one more of these in and that would be that for the evening.
After about 10 to 15 minutes burn the "log" actually blew apart into two halfs with one hitting the back of the stove and the other going off the side and then hitting the glass (thankfully not too hard).
Just on the basis that it can behave like that i'm inclined not to purchase them again.
I'm fairly certain that next year i'll be halfing my smokeless order and going 50/50 with the hotties.0 -
There is mention of buying "hotties" at 50p each. Can someone tell me where from I cant seem to find them at that price. Many thanks0

Bought in bulk, they are under 50p each. Also available from Andy at Greenfires.
Mods: only put the link on as this is where I got mine from, please feel free to remove.0 -

I decided to give the Aldi heat logs a try, and bought a couple of boxes.
They don't last all that long - perhaps 1/2 hour in my stove. But they are easier to light than conventional logs. I only have a small stove, and I can end up getting through quite a lot of small wood before I have enough embers to chuck in a big log.
The heat logs seem to be a good way of getting a bed of embers going, as I can just chuck one in on top of the burning kindling.
As others have reported, they do expand considerably as they burn. They also tend to curl up a bit, like a sausage does when it's cooked. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Back in stock on 7/11

It probably doesn't help "the cause" when people start promoting briquettes as having "the same heat value as coal". That just isn't true - or possible unless they've added other stuff into the wood that makes the briquettes. Not that I'm knocking briquettes - I sell umpteen tonnes of the things every year and am very much in favour of burning wood over fossil fuels - but I'm also a big believer in being straight with people.0

Got my load from Aldi this morning and have been burning away.\
First of they have improved there manufacturing process from last years batch. Last year they expanded like crazy when burning immitating balloons.
\
This years batch just burn away like a log with very little expansion at all.
They also recommend burning half a log at a time on the box and I can conur I have half a log in all vents turned down and the flue temp is a nice 300F.
I tested the moisture less than 1%.
They flame nicely as well.
\
So 2.99 for 10KG, made in the UK, so top job.0
