    Hi all.

I have been researching heat logs. Unfortunately I don't have an Aldi close by so I bought 20 hotties online during the week for £15.99.

Got home today and my wife mentioned that Tesco were selling 12 heat logs for £5.00. I went down and picked up 4 packs. They are fuel express.

They are smaller than the hotties. In length the Hotties are around 23.5cm whereas the Tesco ones are 19.5cm. The hotties are about 7cm diameter, tesco about 6.5cm. The tesco ones look quite dense.

Haven't tried them yet but will give them a go soon.

The Fuel Express ones are very good but @ 50p a kilo, very expensive. Earlier this year Tesco were selling them at £3.99 a pack which is 39.9 pence a kilo.

You can buy them online for 38p a kilo, minimum order is £75.00 though.

It's actually more than 39.9p/kg - as the Fuel Express briquette packs don't weigh 10 kilos - they are made to an average of 8.5 - 9kg. That makes them more expensive than Hotties (which average 10kg) if you buy them in bulk - they work out to 39.5 p/kg if you live in one of the free delivery areas.
  • Greenfires. I've never never weighed the Fuel Express ones so I'll take your word for it. You do realise that there are 12 logs in a pack?

At the moment I'm trying some smaller ones called Burners which I got from Woof.
They dont expand but they aint as good as some others I've tried such as Blazers.

    Haven't tried the Hotties yet.
  • Yes I know mate - the information was from the factory that makes them! Handy being in the trade sometimes y'know!
  • Ive just bought a couple of packs to try in my multi fuel stove , to eek out my free split seasoned hardwood

can you them on whole or is it best to half them does anyone know ?
    thanks JD

Try half at a time, if they are more than a kilo each.

I stick em in whole. Although be careful they expand a bit.
  • well just to report back on my first time using them

after the usual kindling / paper lighting I put on 3 pieces roughly 1 inch wide with a few dry sticks to get the fire going this was late afternoon

then I added the rest of the heat log again in larger pieces

wow what a heat comes off these things my room was toasty warm very quickly

I added 2 halfs late in the evening and only used another 2 small seasoned Logs to keepthe fire going till bedtime
I'll definitely get some more if I see . them 2 heat logs for the whole evening and a superfast heat my lounge was 22 ◇ I opened doors to circulate the air
hope this helps someone thinking of buying
  • Getting our log stove installed on Thursday (cant Wait) have just picked up two boxes if these to try in addition to the log collection i have been building up over the past couple of months.

Will report how i get on (or not)

Will be interesting lighting the stove for the first few times i imagine!

A word of advice if I may.
When you light your Burner for the first time, don't have the fire too hot. I remember when I first lit ours, there was that many fumes coming off it, that it set the smoke alarms off in the house.
I think it might be the newly painted metal that causes it.

    Get some windows open.:D
