  • We sold the ukheatlogs for one season a couple of years back as an economy alternative to our usual ones. Most of our regulars had a go with them. Keep them indoors though - they're very prone to atmospheric damp and will burst out of their boxes if they're not in a dry atmosphere.
  • Deals like this are generally paid for by the manufacturer rather than the supermarket. Tesco or whoever do the promotion and make a noise about what a caring outfit they are and how they're putting the customer first - whereas in reality it's the manufacturer who is taking the hit and often selling at a loss for the duration of the promotion. Just business I guess!

Also of course, if you buy briquettes by the pallet, which a lot of our customers do, then the price comes down a lot compared to single packs or small orders. The heatlogs mentioned are about £3.50 per pack if you buy by the pallet, and that includes delivery which will cost the factory in the region of £50.

I'm going out later to buy some. Have you tried them yet savemoney?
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
  • Probably worth pointing out that the 10kg box of heatlogs will contain up to three times or more the energy of the 10 kilos of seasoned logs mentioned in this post.

As I said, most of our regulars took some to try out when we gave this brand a go a couple of years back - said they were okay but they all went straight back to our usual ones which were more expensive on the face of it - that's why we only had one season selling them.

Quick update lit fire roughly 30 mins ago. Main vents now closed and top/secondary vents now open about 75%, damper almost closed right down (about 10% open), stove thermometer reading 300 degrees Fahrenheit and lots of gentle yellow flames. Well pleased so far.

Will update before going to work later.

Can't wait to try these in the new log burner, I've ordered a Burley 8Kw stove.

    Thermometer now up to 450!!!
  • Just rushed out and grabbed a bunch and some kindling so fingers crossed. We have an open fire so hopefully enough for that. First heat of the year :) This would make a good 'grab it'
Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j
  • Just keep an eye on them if you're using them on an open fire - we've had a few customers who have had the cylindrical solid briquettes making a daring bid for freedom from an open fire when they've been making a brew or whatever! Screw extruded briquettes don't expand or fall to bits if disturbed, so are possibly a better option than solid briquettes in open fires. You'll also get proper embers of course - so heat for a lot longer.

I just got another box the last one in store. I was going to get another 6 but no more in stock. The checkout operator said they are getting some more in and will be a regularly thing for winter but might be a few weeks when they come back, this is what he told me

As for open fire yeah I agree I wouldn't use one without a fireguard, wish I got the chimney swept though only get the one for log burner dont use the other chimney at all but dare say its sotty as old owner use to burn coal

I got up for work at 10.30 although the fire looked out the top of the fire was still hot and the Ecofan was still turning. Think I'll have a tour of the local Aldis in the morning and buy any that are left. Glad to hear that Aldi are going to stock them during the winter.

Just done some calculations whilst at work, these work out at 6p/Kwh so not as cheap as gas but cheaper than using electric and even after taking into account my stove efficiency, my current one is 65% so still around 9p/Kwh, 7p/Kwh with the new stove in theory!!
