Well I made a right !!!! up last night....rushing about to light fire after being out watching fireworks "oh (I thought), it'll be like those log type things in paper which light easily..." so I tried to light it just with a taper. Ha ha ha not a chance- pushed a firelighter under it and that didn't catch either so then had to start afresh with paper and kindling. By this time and with all my mauling about the log had split in half and I'd had to put Monroe on pause three times. Anyway it lasted for an hour. Today is a new day so won't be in such a hurry...I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Andy/Greenfires if your logs are better than these then they must be really VERY good. Just got home and lit the fire but only using a bit of kindling and one Heat log.
Been to 2 Aldi shops this morning and both managers said they would be getting more in, just didn't know when. Managed to get 3 more boxes. At least if Aldi do stock these then it would be easier spending £30 at a time instead of nearly £400 and then having to move a ton of logs in one go.
So far well impressed with these Heat logs.0 -

I'm trialling some of the hotties that Andy sells.
I've used a full pack at approx. two logs per night.
Kindling to get the fire going then add one log, after an hour adding a second log covers me for the rest of the night.
The two together will last about 4.5 hours @320F (with an odd scrap of wood to improve the flame picture).
I can confirm the hotties do not expand and pretty much burn down to very little ash.
I can't comment if the aldi ones are better or worse as i've not trialled them but the ones Andy sells are very good.
I might try to pick up a box just to report back the difference.0 -
Well I tell everyone the same thing - it's all very well me banging on about how good they are - but it's what the customer thinks that's important. As I said, most of our regular customers tried these a couple of years back with our encouragement. They all said they were okay - pretty much on a par with most of the other pressed briquettes. The telling thing for us was that none of the regulars bought them again - they all went straight back to the usual ones which were about a pound dearer at the time. These are also what we burn at home ourselves - we've tried just about all the commonly available briquettes on the market, and for us at least, these are the best around at the moment, or we'd be burning something else, as we don't like paying over the odds more than anyone else!
Yes I'm in the business, but I also think a lot of my customers and the biggest tip I give all of them is to try and use as few as they possibly can, rather than suggesting they load up the stove with as many as will fit. I might sell less that way, but my customers are getting the best from their fuel and the best value for their money.
Skulls I do take your point about buying a few packs at a time - of course not everyone has the cash to throw at a pallet full all in one go - even if they do work out cheaper per pack. The Aldi price is pretty good at the end of the day- it's pretty much what I'd pay for them at trade. We sell small orders of our briquettes to local customers at a fair bit off retail price - in fact as much off as we can cover. We really do make peanuts on sales of these, but keep doing it as we have a lot of customers who rely on them.0 -
If I was nearer I'd use youI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Thank you Sue - that's kind of you to say so!
Our briquettes do get about a bit though - we have a regular customer who lives in a Lighthouse Keeper's cottage at Lands End, and I think our most northerly one is in Gairloch, which is about a million miles from anywhere up in the north west of Scotland. So anything's possible!!0 -
Andy, can i ask how i can order from you and if you deliver to the East Midlands?£2 Savers Club #156!

Just a quick update. phoned a few of the shops that were going to supply the 8kw Burley, not one had any stock so picked up a 5Kw Burley locally on Weds afternoon. fitted it that evening and yesterday connected a cold air supply to it.
Lit the fire using some kindling and a fire-lighter at 2.30 today. Put on an Eco log then a small log, about half a kilo, and another Eco log at 5 pm. Lounge temperature got up to 24 degrees Celsius at 6.30, opened all the interior doors to share the heat about the house. Went to bed and got up for work at 10 pm and the lounge temperature was still 22 degrees. Well pleased at how economic this fire is. Don't forget the fire I took out was a 16Kw Villager.
Found the logs on-line supplied by the same company for £300/ton delivered, so the same price as Aldi, well almost, but without the hassle of putting them in the car. my neighbour is going to split a load with me so not so hard on the old pocket!!!0 -
I must be going wrong somewhere. I love the heat but these Aldi logs don't seem to last very long in my Firefox 5 CB.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0

Nothing cheaper than free wood. Neighbours and friends have kept me in firewood for the last 2 years. It's not very moneysaving if you're buying fuel that's as dear as gas to burn.0
