laptop slow...after about an hour

as soon as anything 'heavy' starts it slows down. Think its intel graphics, never seen nvidia mentioned in the system.
no blocked vevts etc. Never gone into suspend mode.
Even scrolling up or down the page is slow!0 -
if it's sat on a desk, it can make it harder for the heat to dissipate, which could slow it down, but you are probably nearing the point of a factory restore I think to prove one way or the other
you may wish to do a system image backup with macrium reflect beforehand, and create the macrium boot cd. Also create the XP cd if you didn't get one with the system in case the factory restore partition fails, and backup any data to another place on top.

Done the backup and before reformating the system found a diagnostic tool that is still running but has found one error on HDD...error code 2000-0142 self test failed status byte=79.
Now found this link which i'm hoping will work for me!

Well, in case anyone was following this I ended up reloading windows from my set-up disc and reloaded everything like avast and google chrome as a browser. (IE keeps bringing up error messages as soon as i type in the search box).
All seems ok now but was quite time consuming to get back to workable laptop.
Thanks Closed for your help.:beer:0 -
iE - what messages?
backup using macrium, and it will take 10 minutes to restore a fully working machine with data/programs next time!!

Using Chrome and it doesn't happen.0 -
try resetting it to defaults, under ie, tools, internet options, advanced, and disable any IE addons. has it updated to IE8?!!

Well, despite everything I appear to be back to square one! whether IE8 or Chrome, system snarls up at the slightest demand.0
