laptop slow...after about an hour

does this sound familiar? My dell laptop runs fine for an hour or so then seems to go into slow mode. re-booting seems to cure it. looking at task manager the processor is obviously working at capacity even when it's not doing much! I have run malwarebytes and also system mechanic to de-clutter but I wonder if the cpu is on its way out?
Any help (at numpty level) appreciated.

Backup your files, re-format hard drive and re-install your OS.
Windows is a bit of a clutterbug and overtime this can happen and a reinstall is the best cure.My Mind wanders, if found please return.0 -
If it is fine for an hour or so then it may not be the "clutter" it could well be overheating, check that all the vents are clear and dust free, and don't use it as a laptop ! your clothes block the airvents making it heat up. The mainboard possibly has a feature that turns the speed down to prevent damaging the CPU due to over temperature.0

cpu's rarely are on their "way out", see which process is hogging the cpu in task manager.
Is this after a lid close or suspend?
post a hijackthis log, things like system mechanic are unlikely to make things faster!!

It's possible it is overheating, but usually they just power off suddenly. However there could be a scheduled service kicking in such as a defrag, virus scan that is causing this to happen. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

if, for example I try and watch a you tube video it breaks up, with task manager showing 120,000k mem usage and plugin-container around 70 000k and 100% cpu usage!0

Belkin is my wireless router
cant find searcqu to uninstall it, it doesn't show on the remove programs option.0 -
routers don't require software to be installed on the machine, if you aren't using a belkin wireless adapter, uninstall all the belkin software and delete the belkin proxy settings in IE, tools, internet options, connections, lan settings
http://deletemalware.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/how-to-remove-searchqu-uninstall-guide.html
