still got various things mentioned in my last post

you could also disable the samsung software from startup, and run it (KiesAirMessage.exe) manually when required - can be done using msconfig, startup tab (which works the other way around to hijackthis, ie you untick to disable using msconfig)

  • google toolbar uninstalled as well as firefox
System mechanic remains as it was directed to me from Dell website when I first started to try to solve this.
  • it seems that when i re-boot its ok till I try something like youtube that requires it to work a little harder, than surfing, and that's when it slows down!

upto you, but it appears that system mechanic hasn't solved anything, so it's just adding startup bloat.

You've still got an odd belkin proxy server set in IE, see tools, internet options, connections & lan settings

are you still using firefox, or trying IE instead?

Has it always had this problem?

    Which firefox plugins are installed

which process is consuming the cpu when you are youtubing?

What spec is the machine, and how good is your download speed?
    !!

  • internetexplore.exe is taking around 80%cpu during youtube.
4.5 to 5.0 mbps speed on the bt speedcheck

it's a dell inspiron 6400 and these problemshave got worse during the last few months.

There's always the option of a backup, and factory restore.

80% still leaves some spare processor capacity, does it stall using ie?

Is it any different/better with IE?
    !!
    > . !!!! ----> .
  • Yes, i'm thinking of a restore from disc. IE seems slower than firefox and its driving me potty now....anything seems to take an eternity to do.
I do appreciate your help. I think i'll try a disc clean up and defrag see if that does anything. I only type with two fingers and it sin't keeping up with me!

i'd be very surprised if either made any difference, especially if you have run ccleaner.

one further thing, try it running on mains power, without the battery in.

Could you confirm, you have 2GB of ram installed, and the peak commit charge is below 1GB?

Dells usually come with a factory restore partition, which should put it back to factory condition in 10 minutes, but will wipe all your data - so backup first, and have the xp cd handy in case it fails.
