Just got a sanction to JSA (Advice for appeal)

I basically "forgot to sign on". Now they want to stop my JSA for one month. Is this not ridiculous? Or is it just me who thinks this totally unreasonable?

I'd appreciate any advice as to what I should say in the appeal. I wouldn't have imagined that forgetting to sign would be grounds for suspension of benefit. Does anyone know if this is in fact the case?

Unfortunately if you have stated that you just forgot its highly unlikely that the descision will be overturned.

Before an appeal you would need to complete a DR7 and ask for the decision makers to look at it again

Its harsh but what are they supposed to think if to gain a weeks money all a person has to do is to remember to sign on, who to say you were not working ?
DR 7 and hope its overturned.

What if I forgot because there was a good reason? Would this make any difference?

I can't believe this is happening. I would never have thought that this would be legitimate grounds for losing benefit. Forgot to sign on Thursday; told them that this had happened on Friday and now no benefit.

You need to change how you view signing on.

Right now they are your boss. If they have given you that time and date to start a shift then that is what you have to do to be paid.

What if the jcp worker forgot to go to work, how would you be paid then? They may have a good reason/excuse.

Depends if the decision maker sees it as a good enough reason! Unfortunately yes it's completely legitimate for them to sanction you as you couldn't not turn up to work because you forgot, the new sanctions came into force on 22/10/12 so the penalties are a lot tougher than before

And importantly, the 'second stage' sanctions that kick in if you have two offences in 52 weeks are much, much harsher.

As advised, be careful as the sanctions can rack up quickly. Currently the maximum sanction period is for 3 years.

If I forgot to turn up for work I wouldn't get paid.........so why should you not be sanctioned for forgetting to sign on. What was so distracting that you forgot ?
