    Use your brain.

Warning then sanction or less sanction on first mistake.

Customers are warned when they sign on....also if the book that shows them there signing details tells them all about the penalties for non compliance

The system is fair and proportionate - it is really not difficult to avoid sanctions.

If someone is "intermittent chaotic confused (and) forgetful" they will be able to provide medical evidence to this effect, will they not? The JSAgreement could be adapted to allow some flexibility (with medical evidence), or to ensure that the claimant has coping mechanisms in place to meet the appt. Not difficult!
Why not have warning, why is it fair & proportionate compared to previous system ?

They may not have any proof, it may not be provable to anybody.

That's why you give people a chance. You're talking as if people don't make mistakes.

Do Jobcentre/DWP staff get sanctioned for their mistakes ?

That's not a warning at time they made mistake.

Maybe you should try helping them, not crucifying them.

Don't believe government ideology you have to follow.
  • JSA tried to sanction me 3 times in 6 weeks even though I signed a forward directive cos they sent me on a 6 week college office course, which meant also my housing benefit was stopped & had to be restarted again & again.
JSA don't make mistakes, do they?

Of course they make mistakes but thats not what this thread is about. This guy forgot to sign on therefore he shouldn't get paid people do make mistakes we are all human but I wouldn't make a 'mistake' which would cost me atleast £142 if it was my only source of income !

They are grown adults.... It is written in black and white on their signing book.

And a lot are in difficulty.

We're not talking about everyone, because most people follow the rules as you well know. People make mistakes & accidents happen.

When you make a mistake do you lose a month, week or day's pay ?

The ONLY thing you need to think off is helping the people you deal with, not punishing people for simple mistakes a very few people make.

And I don't punish anyone the descision makers do using the guidelines that are set in the legislation.

JC advisors have a lot of discretion & it is their moral duty to protect people from unfair government policies designed to punish them in a recession when they can't get jobs or are in difficulty.

It is our duty to follow and implement those policies and procedures you talk of not to just disregard them.
