Just got a sanction to JSA (Advice for appeal)

Sanctioned for a month ?
Maybe they have other problems ?
Do you think it's right to sanction people in difficulty, who make a single mistake.
Do you think it really helps, or will push them down ?
Are people that stupid to think that harsh sanctions are what's needed in a depression/recession ?
What sort of problems might stop a person attending the job centre once a fortnight?
Yes, I do think it helps sanctioning someone who 'forgets' to carry out the one simple act that means free money. I doubt they'll forget again.
The recession has nothing to do with forgetting to sign on....nice to see that line being trotted out though
Tell us, John, what do YOU think should be done about people forgetting to sign on? What do you think is a fair punishment/reminder?0 -

Despite the fact they are not even addressed to me, I'll answer the other questions to humour you.
If they have other problems they have the opportunity to advise the JCP of them when they first sign on, or indeed every two weeks after that. The JSAgreement can be adjusted accordingly.
Yes, I do think it is right, otherwise where is the incentive to comply with the very simple JS instructions?
It is down to the individual as to how this affects them. The fact is that they have a simple solution to the sanction system - find work.
Happy?

Use your brain.
Warning then sanction or less sanction on first mistake.
Why should someone get a warning first, is it really that difficult to remember to sign on once a fortnight?
Why are you suggesting Mara69 uses their brain (when it is quite clear that they already have), are you not capable of providing an answer?0 -
The incentive is a fair sensible proportionate sanction system, not punishing those in difficulty that pushes them down further.Despite the fact they are not even addressed to me, I'll answer the other questions to humour you.

And how would JSA agreements be adjusted for intermittent chaotic confused forgetful people & their problems ?
It does not help them get a job, particularly in a recession/depression.0 -
Being asked to go once every 14 days to the job centre for what is effectively free money is not asking too much.
If you don't like the conditions, don't sign on. No one is going to force you.SPC #1813

The system is fair and proportionate - it is really not difficult to avoid sanctions.
If someone is "intermittent chaotic confused (and) forgetful" they will be able to provide medical evidence to this effect, will they not? The JSAgreement could be adapted to allow some flexibility (with medical evidence), or to ensure that the claimant has coping mechanisms in place to meet the appt. Not difficult!0 -
Does anyone know if this will affect my House Benefit? Will this stop because of the sanction?
Haven't read the whole thread but just like to point out, you will carry on getting your HB not matter how long your JSA is suspended for.
You will however have to ring the HB up and explained what's happened. Same happened to me.Save, save, save, save.0 -

Well they are doing away with crisis loans aswell !Warning then sanction or less sanction on first mistake.
John they get warned about what will happen if they dont do what is expected of them when they first claim JSA so it should be a shock when they get no money0
