Reputable compensation company to claim from after an accident?

I sustained injury (quite serious), loss of earnings, and all that, when a well-known car repair/maintenance company seriously botched a routine bit of work on my car, causing me to crash.

I made a claim through just an ordinary local solicitor, who did it on a no win/no fee basis. I won, and got my compo, wheras the solicitor's fees were paid seperately to the solicitor, direct from the company in question - i.e. the fees didn't come from my own pocket.

My claim took about 8 weeks from end to end, including going for a medical. However, I was claiming against a large company, who admitted liability (and sacked two staff in the process, because the error they made could have cost me my life, had I been driving on the motorway, and not an ordinary B-road).

    Everyone!!! Why?
    Because it is not true.

Unless you can PROVE that the accident was the drivers fault, there is no claim.

Wow, glad you are ok and won your case. So would you recommend that I just went to see a local solicitor and see if they can offer a no win no fee deal or something? I definitely can't afford to pay a solicitor on SSP and no real salary! Or can you apply for legal aid?

There is also 2 routes I guess I can take as it was a road traffic accident but I was also working at the time as part of my day to day role...

I would recommend a local solicitor as a possibilty, yes, but they'd still have to 'want' to take it on. Your main barrier is not finding someone to claim through, but having a valid claim in the first place, as per concerns raised by ILW.

Are you a lawyer or is that just your opinion? Just wondering.

I have several broken bones because he drove into me and would argue that generally you don't drive into pedestrians unless you aren't paying enough attention.
Even if an authority does advise that it would be an unsuccessful claim through a RTA, I was also working at the time so I could maybe go down that route, I don't know..

Ok thanks, actually quite surprised at that point. It didn't even cross my mind that it wouldn't be a valid claim. At no point has anyone said anything about that me, just they expect I would be entitled to some sort of compensation from the driver and/or work.

Good to get a different perspective though I suppose.

Did the event occur on the road or on a pedestrian area?
Were the police involved and have they pressed charges?

    On the road.

Yes police took a statement from me and presumably from the driver too. They said it was in case I wanted to press charges and I think I said probably not. They haven't been in touch with me since the accident. Should I not have said that?

Are you a traffic warden or similar. If so you may have a claim on your employers insurance.
