    Hi Starsky

I sent my application on April 11th (ish) and my Safeway ISA was transferred 3 weeks ago, but still no sign of welcome packs. I'm surprised the Safeway one takes so long - they're owned by Abbey for goodness sake! They are pretty poor at this - I read of a few complaints to the Independent over the weekend.

Mine and others' experience on here is that the interest is back-dated to when your application was post marked/handed in at branch (I think anyway, someone else will confirm the date but it is definitely paid) but it works out well because you're effectively earning interest on your money in both ISAs while they're sorting it out.

The best way to find out is to keep badgering them, I got to the stage of phoning them almost every other day for updates. I'm just pi**ed that I'm stuck with them for a year.

No you aren't. You can transfer it at any time you want. There is not a limit on how many times you can transfer, just on how much you pay in.
  • oh god. evrytime i open this thread i feel like im at work where a customer has started a call with the words

"yeah i bloody well hope you can help me .... your ** isa/savings/credit card/banking/mortgage/insurance/pension ** (delete where applicable) department is really not very good (or perhaps some more colourful language)"

and when that happens a little something tells me that it might be a complaint

10 weeks seems to be a little on the excessive side - don't you think ?? Any comments.

Do you happen to know if they backdate interest to the opening date on transfers across. Is seems unfair I am penalised for Abbey's tardiness.

    Ian.

yes it is excessive. its unacceptable and frankly im embarassed for us over the whole business.

interest will be backdated to the date the application was received so you will (or should) still get the issue one rate. this is the case regardless of whether its a new opening or a transfer from an existing ISA.

    DC.

Don't feel as if you have the world on your shoulders. We are with you as an individual.

See my previous posts regarding Abbey.

It would be a really good idea to pass all of these posts to the directors of the Board at Abbey, and see the reaction.
This is providing you don't get 'aggro'.
I'm sure you can 'weed' out your advice, from the other posts in the thread.

I would love to be at the end of the boardroom table when the posts are presented.
I know what I would be doing with Abbey as an entity.
Send some managers down the road to -- 'lick em and stick em'.
Then get it back on track, where it used to be.
    "A Leader".

But if this lax of customer service continues then Abbey can 'kiss' goodbye to their customer base.

    'No Worries'

When one does move from one company to another, you do find that the weakness is not with with you. The company has it's own agenda!!

The new company always wants to exert pressure, on you, to show their superior skills over the competition, but most are still the same.
'Dead', from the 'neck-up'. They have their own agenda!!

It takes Directors with 'Vision', and experienced commercial Managers to make a company perform well.
They must be paid well and have the backing of the 'shareholders.

Can we bring this thread back on to discussing the Abbey ISA. If you want to discuss the good/bad points of Abbey as a company and the performance of the directors go to the Vent board.

There are no more points to discuss re: Abbey ISA1 postal account.
    We have seen it all!

Thank you for your informative para regarding Abbey.

If I need any more advice I will certainly ask you.

Have just spoken to Abbey to check they got my money transferred from my old ISA with Nationwide.

Filled in the application and transfer request in an Abbey Branch on 15 April. Noationwide received the transfer request from abbey on 24th May, and transferred the money on 26th. Abbey didn't put it in my account until the 8th June, just under 2 months since opening the account.

at the branch, and on the phone I was told repeatedly that interest would be backdated until the date I filled in the forms.

Phoned today and it's only been backdated until 26th may. I'm not happy, and they said that it is not their policy to backdate the interest.

Letter on it's way to the complaints dept to see what happens.

As I think I have already said, I posted my application on 25/04/05. This morning, 13/06/05, I received my 'methods of identification' back. 7 weeks until I even knew they had received my application. It is a good job their 'backlog' has been so well publicised here and elsewhere. All I got was a piece of paper with my address on, and my two documents returned. Well, at least I know that they did receive my application now, and I was a little worried about my identification documents. A letter saying "we have received your application" would have been nice... perhaps 5 or 6 weeks ago maybe. Now a letter saying "thank you for your patience and sorry for the delay" would be nice. I won't be so keen to sign up for other Abbey products in the future, or recommend them to anyone else! Oh well, I will continue to wait. I hope I don't have any trouble with the backdated interest - please come back to us with an update about that ctm.
