Abbey is now a slow organisation, that has been taken over by a company that has to have a 'siesta', and is becoming slower in service, in my opinion.

Well Abbey seem to have woken up. After disappearing my savings, I wrote them a complaint (ccd to ISA dept) and received a "starter" response and complaints procedure form within 5 days as promised.
If only the rest of their business operated with such alacrity.0 -
Is the Abbey rate on the 1st Postal Isa likely to drop from 5.35% soon? I opened an A+L Direct ISA when it was 5.4% but didn't put any money in, so I'm wondering whether the 5.4% rate will still apply or not. Also, which is likely to keep its rate up for longest - Abbey or A+L ?0

I think this thread for Abbey has given a few good points, but mainly the replies are not good for an organisation that relied on the slogan 'Get the Abbey habit' many years ago. Lost their way after takeover.
In my opinion, only, Abbey will be the first bank to reduce the inerest rate on the ISA1 when the bank rate is reduced in the near future.
YBS is the one to be with at the moment. Only my opinion, but very good service.Follow the 6 'Ps' principle.0 -
Have you not noticed - YBS just reduced their internet savings account from 5.2% to 5.0%Ethical moneysaver0

I just phoned Abbey who have told me that the rate will fall from 5.35% to 4.9%. I can't remember if the woman told me when they will be making the change, but I guess it will be next week. How does 4.9% compare to the competition now? Thats sneaky though a 0.45% drop when only a 0.25% reduction in base rates. Shame on you Abbey! You think we won't notice!?
I hate base rate changes, it always changes the playing field in the rates wars, one has to check all the rates from everybody once they have all moved and it doesn't happen all at once.0 -
I suppose it was too much to hope that a close issue would only reduce by 0.25%
