I was told that the interest would be backdated to when they received my application and that I would get the ISA1 if this was before the end of April (which it almost certainly was, so I assume I will be backdated to the end of April!).
  • A letter saying "we have received your application" would have been nice... perhaps 5 or 6 weeks ago maybe. Now a letter saying "thank you for your patience and sorry for the delay" would be nice.

hmmm interesting. thought we might have sent out "sorry for the delay" notes. did anyone get one? maybe you were just unlikely tigerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I just got a scrap of paper saying my ISA had been changed to a postal ISA (via a ticked box) along with my ID forms. That was 4 weeks ago - I've had nothing else, not even forms for making deposits, envelopes, confirmation of interest rate, welcome packs, nothing. When I phoned to ask about this they said the company who all this is outsourced to also has at least a 4 week back-log.

    Hey everbody!

I completed my application form 'on-line' and then printed and sent off my signed application forms, with initial cheque to open my new account for my new ISA
    on 7-6-05.
Have received conformation today that my account is now open with my initial cheque. 14-6-05. I can now view my account 'on-line'.

    That's what I call service.

I have to forego £4.50 of interest for the full year on my deposit between Abbey and my new provider but that is only a big box of 'chocs' or a full box of 'bedding' plants for the garden.!!

Have just spoken to Abbey to check they got my money transferred from my old ISA with Nationwide.

Filled in the application and transfer request in an Abbey Branch on 15 April. Noationwide received the transfer request from abbey on 24th May, and transferred the money on 26th. Abbey didn't put it in my account until the 8th June, just under 2 months since opening the account.

at the branch, and on the phone I was told repeatedly that interest would be backdated until the date I filled in the forms.

Phoned today and it's only been backdated until 26th may. I'm not happy, and they said that it is not their policy to backdate the interest.

Letter on it's way to the complaints dept to see what happens.

I have spoken with, and emailed Abbey regarding backdated interest on deposits to the postal ISA1 account. They say they have backdated interest to the accounts, and according to my calculation this is correct.

I received my 2004/5 statement showing interest received to my acount, but no interest rate applied!!
When I contacted them regarding this they said this was not 'company policy' to show interest rates applied to the account.
As you can see the interest rate changed in September 2004 to the 5.35% rate.
I have had to calculate the exact interest due on my account to make sure it is correct.

I think this is a B----cks way of issuing annual statements and have told them so.

    An update:
25/04/05 - Posted Application (they likely received it 27/05/04 at the latest)
13/06/05 - received my 'methods of identification' back (and nothing else)
20/06/05 (approx.) - received a very brief welcome letter and a few forms.
27/06/05 - received confirmation that my transfer request has been processed and a mini statement.

2 months all in all so far! Also, it seems that my deposits haven't been backdated, and I have no way of knowing if I have received an issue 1 ISA. I did received assurances that I would receive an Issue 1 ISA and that my payments would be backdated. ctm: how did you get on with your backdated interest? It seems I will also have to write for conformation. What kind of an organisation is now holding my millions (erm, well, maybe an exaggeration)?

They haven't replied yet. Letter sent on 11th, now 27th. I think I may have to make a phone call to enquire as to when they will reply to me.....
