  • For what its worth I followed the process with Argos and they would only offer a small percentage of the charges. In the end after they had refused and told me they wouldn't be corresponding with me any more, I referred it to the Ombudsman. Once they got involved Argos paid up.

In fairness this all took about 5 months but at the end of the day although it wasn't the quickest process it was pretty painless ie sending off a few letters and filling in the Ombudsman's form.

So keep at it and you will get the charges back.
  • Just a question regarding charges made on my son's store card.

Are charges reclaimable in the same way as credit card charges?
  • Hi All

Just a quick query really - can you claim back store card charges? Thinking about trying with GE Money but before I go ahead just wondered if this was possible or not.....??

    Cheers

  • Can I use the same letters to reclaim store card charges as I use for credit cards please? I just worked out what some of these companies have charged me over the past six years and I am horrified!

    Thanks

Yes, just amend 'credit' to 'store' where necessary.
  • Thanks! I will get writing straight away :T

You do not have a legal right to the statements - you have the right to see the details held about you but the format given by the company will not necessarily be in the form of a statement.

I contacted GE money last year with regard to two store card accounts I have had in the past (Debenhams and House of Fraser). They sent me duplicate statements for some months (interestingly where no charges were applied) but there are serious gaps in the info they sent me (a total of 18 months for one account, but not all consecutive). I know for a fact that there is a significant amount of charges in question here, for me at least!

They said that they were unable to retrieve this information, due to some kind of problem with their system, and said the same again when I wrote a letter saying that this was unacceptable, as they had provided some but not all of the information requested. The gaps in information did not date from the start, but were at different periods during the past 6 years. Any ideas as to what I do next?
  • Does anyone know who ran the BHS store card and what there correspondence address is

The above is the guide you need to use to reclaim the charges.
