My daughter is one of many who are still arguing over an extended warranty, so seeing Comet's new public page on Facebook made me very angry.**Welcome to our New Facebook page.
We will be opening up for business on 25/11/2012. We promise to be more effective with our services & will provide our customers with an even better shopping experience.** My daughter shared her dreadful experiences with Comet customer 'care', on Facebook some months ago, and merely updated the page yesterday with the recent news about Comet's demise. Several people started commenting on this old article, and soon became abusive, also liking each others post. My daughter reported the abuse to Facebook.
When I looked at the public profiles of these posters they were from the same company. This company just happens to be listed on the public Comet Facebook page as 'another member of their 'fresh' retail family'. How low can Comet and their new fresh retail family go?
This is the official Comet UK page: https://www.facebook.com/cometuk

The other page you mention is not linked with Comet UK.

    Thank you for your reply.

I cannot post a link to the new page on Facebook as I am quite a new user on this site.
The page on Facebook I have seen has an aqua colour, a star, and Comet written on it. It says Comet updated the cover photo Thursday.
One of the replies to a post on this page says 'We are re-branding Comet Electricals & will introduce many new services very soon. Stay posted for the latest updates.'

I have just read through the 5 pages of comments regarding the downturn in Comet.
It is not the staff on the front-line that have caused this to happen and they stand to loose their jobs, so whilst I appreciate that some of you are loosing money and are not very happy, understandably, regarding this...Imagine how they must be feeling knowing that they have a great chance of loosing their job!
So whilst it is easy to go down to your local Comet to get answers to questions...just think how they must be feeling as staff.

I also know that the staff at our local store are doing everything they can to help the customers:-)

when my washer went wrong, I called indesit not comet. Warrantys are provided by the manufacture
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Have just been told by Comet that I will not be receiving goods ordered a week ago £420 worth down the drain. Is there anything that I can do?

Your best bet then is Visa / Mastercard Chargeback which should cover this. Search for 'chargeback' on the *main MSE site* using the search at the top-right of the page (sorry it won't let me post a link).

I don't think that facebook page is linked to the original Comet

My 80 year old neighbour has a problem with her Indesit washing machine which was bought in June.
The retailer she bought it from told her to ring Hotpoint customer care.
I did this for her, and noticed there was a different number to press if you purchased from Comet. This was last week before the news broke.
She will be having her machine attended to by a Hotpoint engineer, but I wonder what will happen if bought from Comet.
Reason being my other neighbour bought hers from Comet.

Same Hotpoint service I guess, but why the different number on the service line for Comet customers ?

Comet (and DSG) tend to stock products that are identical apart from the model number, different colour, whatever so you cant price match against them as they are not identical

The option may be there to cover those models but I imagine it makes little difference if you select it or not as its the same parts inside.

It would also be a foolish manufacturer who doesnt offer support for ex-Comet 'models' as the person who bought it will just tell everyone how crap they are which wont to their reputation any good.
