Have just been told by Comet that I will not be receiving goods ordered a week ago £420 worth down the drain. Is there anything that I can do?0

You would need to read the Terms and Conditions of the type of debit card to see what protection against a company failure you have.
Which card provider is it?0 -
Yes, I doubt my insurer will do anything since they issued it to me in February and I left them in October. It is valid for one year, but I was saving it for Christmas. I will give them a call once things are clearer.
I got my gift card from my work as a small reward. It's issued under the corporate card scheme and I'm going to enquire if that has any protection, but I reckon that they got a discount for it, bought the card and then responsibility falls with the holder. I doubt that there will be any luck.
From the FAQs on the Comet website:I have a Comet Gift Card, is this still valid? The Administrators are currently considering the position in relation to gift cards and gift vouchers and at this stage they cannot be used to pay for items. The Administrators are reviewing this position urgently.Reading between the line I see this "you're screwed". Its a polite way of killing time before they have to say they won't accept them any more. I don't hold out much hope. All I can see at best is they try and flog off what they can and then allow card holders to buy whats left of the scraps.
As a result no further gift cards or gift vouchers will be issued to customers.
I went into a store this afternon and noticed the guy peeling off the sign on the door that lists the payment methods. At first I thought they were stopping credit cards but then thought about it and guessed that gift cards were listed on there.
There didn't seem to be many people buying, just looking at prices and walking out again.0 -
Has anybody been this afternoon? Any idea of when the sale starts?0

The Comet website on Facebook, says their new look website will be available from 28 November 2012, with Condition Gadgets UK as a new member of their fresh retail family. It looks like Comet and new associates will operate through the Internet only. I wonder if they will re - employ any of their staff who will be made redundant by this move? Will they help previous customers with existing problems?0

At the moment Deloitte has a duty of care to comets customers and investors to get as much as possible, if they can they'll save as many stores as possible with as much stock as possible.
Also some retailers, Argos, Amazon and of course Dixons Retail will have access to Comets stock that they own (or that suppliers who were not quick enough to retrieve their stock) and put in bids for them at a discounted price.
But no expect Deloitte to keep the business running for as long as they can 5 days or at a max 10 days to see if anyone buys it outright, if they get a decent enough deal on some stores being taken over they'll announce how many stores and jobs were saved and then liquidate the stock in the remaining stores or perhaps depending on the deal the buyer takes all the stock to liquidate for themselves and it goes to those stores being rebranded or perhaps even sold online.
There's so many options available but I'd be surprised if they had a fire sale before Friday.0 -

It's a spoof/fake. The real Comet FB page is at http://www.facebook.com/cometuk?fref=ts0 -
Just checked my paperwork and it was Domestic and General covering the washing machine I bought from Comet nearly 4yrs ago and it was nearly always D&G in general when you were contacted at the end of the first year for electrical purchases.
So even though I'm covered for the moment and my fridge also came from Comet and still works, I feel sorry for the staff having had a false dawn with the last set of buyers.0
