Regarding postage costs I think customers are too spoiled with free delivery and cheap courier from large retailers who can get low rates there is no way independent sellers can match their prices.
This is very true. We have very few ways to avoid this, having free P&P and just increasing the item cost/start price is one.
I have a few auction items I start at 99p, general stuff I am clearing out from the house. I make sure the postage cost is exactly what it costs to post, and I put a note at the bottom of the description that says "Please note the postage charge I have put is exactly what it costs to send at the Post Office".
I'll probably get some 1's or 2's for P&P charges even with that on, but hopefully most buyers have a conscience...
EDIT: I'm wondering now whether thats the best idea, maybe make the postage £1.20 if it costs £2.20 and just increase the start price to £1.99...??? Its just psychology...

I think the problem is that many buyers have no idea how much postage costs.
I subsidise all my postage costs, but still have 5 3*. Free postage is really the only answer, but on some items it just isn't possible to load the starting price.
I wondered whether to put in a note saying that the actual postage cost was x and I paid the difference, but they'd probably then mark me down on communicationYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Too many buyers are really daft when it comes to DSR;s, and some seem to mark you down for spite I guess.
I had a business seller recently buy 3 magazines off me, he sells magazines on ebay. I was careful with postage costs when I combined them and charged only .20p more for posting 3 magazines than he charges for posting just 1. He gave me all 3 stars on 3 magazines. Ebay won't remove them. By the way they were positve feedback saying how great the mags were.
Today I have been hit with 2 stars for p&p off a buyer, again positive feedback saying thanks for the item. The item was bulky and fragile and had to be packed in a box with lots of bubble wrap. I charged postage plus 20p for packing, packing was a box with about 6 sheets of bubble wrap, using tape, labels etc, so in my opinion not an over charge. I had sent him a nice message saying thanks for payment as well and telling him is parcel was posted the same day he paid, (in fact it was posted less than 2 hours after he paid.)

How do you know what they left you. Even though it says updated daily my dashboard isn't. It gets updated every few days so I don't know who left what. Plus ive had 6 feedbacks since Dec 31st but the dashboard only shows feedback til 31st Dec. How can i check what was left after 31st Dec.....
Anyone?0 -
I check all the DSR's that are left for me.
There is a rather fiddly way to do it as the DSR's only show up after approx 1 1/2 days but you are able to tell exactly what stars were left for each item where feedback was left.
I actually gave a detailed "how to check your dsr's" somewhere on the ebay threads a year or so back.

It is the time of the month again when ebay review accounts and change the expanded dashboard, so well worth a quick look to make sure yours is all in order and does not need attention.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm bumping this as yet again there is a seller on the Ebay Community Boards who has been banned for life. Feedback of over 900 but had no idea how to check their DSR ratings. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

Just been reading about one thrown off because Ebay said 4 days is too long to dispatch. Lost her living for doing what she said in the listings.
EBAY - WHY DO YOU OFFER AN OPTION OF UP TO 30 DAYS DISPATCH TIME YOU MORONS!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Why don't they just put 3 days max and then people know wher they stands. And why do they hide the importance of the ratings until your in trouble????? And they wonder why i and many others hate them.
And just in case anyone has a flippant comment that i should raise MY game - ive not had a low star in well over a year and post next day - i just think its disgraceful the way they treat the good customers (no negs) - and yet the chancers and scammers with feeedback that would make you blush survive.0 -
Techspec, I have a great deal of sympathy for sellers who fall foul of their DSrs but mainly because eBay don't blooming tell sellers to check their expanded dashboard. Everything now is dealt with mainly on the results showing in the expanded dashboard, but try finding a good clear warning anywhere about it. That's why I started this thread to raise awareness.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Exactly - my accounts have been perfect since i knew about it. Shame THEY couldnt be bothered telling me.
How hard would it be? I get OFFER alerts - how about a "how to protect your account" alert - or your expanded dashboard being the first thing you see when you log into MyEbay. Even a warning you are near Ebays limits.
I don't see what they get out of not telling everyone what is expected of them. Many joined Ebay when it was a fun way to trade - they need telling Ebay as changed.0
