So possibly then a good idea more for the seller who gets a lot of on sales through a website?

Get the buyers in through a conventional ebay listings with paypal/cheques etc, then steer them to your own website for future sales, where Google checkout is payment of choice.

looks as though paypal had their spies in the google camp.... i should imagine there is a little geeky person in a small office at the very top of the paypal building.... that no one talks to... or even remembers their name.....and his job is to find out all the gossip on the grape vine in whats happening on the internet.. that could topple papypal.....lol.....

i wonder if there is a way of not mentioning google payments excepted in ebay listings.... but excepting it....

    hope that makes sense.....

edit...... what are the charges after the end of 2007....comapred to paypal....anyone know ?

the google checkout, does a buyer have to register for this or can they just pay using a credit/debit card?
I am thinking about using this this as my default payment method for my website instead of Nochex
    thanks

I hope all Ebay sellers defy the rules and start accepting this payment....paypal have to be brought down

Was this launched today? If the guardian article is anything to go by then it's been around for a while  Anyway, I hope Google put a big marketing drive behind this cos they could be quite influential!

Also reported on theregister today as well, would be very interested in using this, pity there isn't a good alternative to Ebay as well!

    Just signed up.

Need to intergrate it into our website and then I'll let you know how it all goes.

It does appear though that google only cover sales to/in US and UK so for the time being we will need to keep paypal....

Google aren't concerned about Ebay. Ebay have spent ages tying in Paypal to the Ebay system to make it the two compatible, and will not in a million years develop a system to interface with another payment provider. I very much doubt Google expect them to either. Whilst Ebay may be important to people reading this board, it in fact accounts for only a tiny percentage of all online transactions.

Google's interest is concerned with other online websites. They will be pitching this against the likes of Worldpay, Protx, Billmelater and yes Paypal. Outside of Ebay, Paypal is also the largest facilitator for credit and debit card payments taken on Ecommerce sites across the world.

What is more likely is that Google develop an auction site to rival Ebay. They would obviously then interface the Google Payment system with that site in the same way that Ebay have done with Paypal.

Don't see why it shouldn't be possible to list it as a payment option like Nochex :) Ok so you can't add it as a preferred payment method but you should be able to enter it under your payment text that you accept this as a payment method :) Just the same as you would accept cash, cheques, etc etc :)
If Ebay try and stop that I'd be VERY interested in what Google were to do about it I have to admit :)

If reported your auctions will be pulled and after that happens a few times your account will be suspended. If ebay say no, they usually mean no and I can't see what Google can do about it. Google can't force ebay to accept their payment system, AFAIK they can't do a 'Mafia' on ebay and threaten them with anything interesting....
