Are Paypal paying you for this?
Why would paypal pay me for suggesting that google checkout might be worth a try?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Why? All they would have to do is say no google payment options allowed, and it would effectively be dead in the water as far as Ebay is concerned.
Ebay can ban whatever they want from their site.
Soo
How exactly would ebay stop people using it? By simply asking them not to? Thats impossible.
If the fees are better people will use it. Ebay will be forced to improve paypal and make it more competitive.0 -
t think there are teething problems in anything when it first starts up.....so i dont think we should write it off yet....
also google are a household name.... even if you havent got a computer... people know the name....
i think google would iron out any problems very quickly... as i should imagine the media etc are watching this venture like a hawk......and google would not want to tarnish their name with something thats going to flop....
lets face it....there is a huge market out there and paypal... seems to get a lot of the e.business ....
good luck to google......and lets hope they give paypal a run for their money.......
it might be worth signing up to google...... and doing some listing on ebay.. saying that you except google.... and see what happens...
as i am sure that ebay havent changed their t & c's to say they dont except google payments.....( yet)Work to live= not live to work0 -
check out eBay's accepted payments policy.....
Google Checkout has been a "Payment Service not permitted on eBay" for months.... Interestingly Canadian Tire Moneey still is though (had a discussion regarding this months ago on eBay Forums) as far as I can work out its a loyalty scheme for a tire company in Canada ---- nice to know that people are allowed to pay with it on eBay.co.uk (next question is why anyone would want to!!)

You'll find Google CHeckout mentioned under Some Examples at the bottom0 -

I don't think you quite understand that ebay can set it's own rules just like any other venue. There are many sites that choose to only accept payment via a credit, or only via a debit card, and yes even some sites that rely entirely on paypal. It is the owners right to choose what payment methods are used for their site. If ebay say no to google then all they would have to do to enforce that ban is to pull auctions that offer it, just like they will pull auctions (when reported) that offer cash as a payment option.
This is nothing to do with the monopoly commission either as they haven't, as yet, insiste don paypal only. A seller is perfectly entitled not to use paypal at all and to stick with cheques or postal orders if they want.
Maybe this is something that ebay need to be overly worried about at the moment, but more of an opportunity for some of the smaller auction sites to steal in and grab sellers with a different payment option? My main problem with the wannabbe ebay sites is that they had nothing unique to offer that ebay didn't offer, but this might be their opportunity.
I was tempted to bung a few auctions up on lesser id with google checkout, before ebay notice, but I don't think I have time to do it today. If anyone else does get stuff listed using google as a payment method do please let us know how it goes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Canadian Tire is huge in....Canada! I remember touring around out there on several occasions and people seeing I wasn't Canadian asking me for my voucher money in return for sweets or things. There was even a black market of sorts on some of the reservations with paper vouchers being traded. I assume it is all online now rather than paper like it used to be.
As for my idea of getting a few things listed quickly before ebay noticed..I did check the acceptable payment methods but just double checked after Dazza's post and yes Google is speficially banned. I can't believe I missed it when I checked. bang goes that idea then.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It seems that Ebay have already banned it in the UK as well according to this

As above under Accepted Payments Policy..... not really surprising Google is probably one of the online brands with a big enough market presence to threaten Paypal's market domination!0 -
Has anyone signed up yet?
I've been an international beta tester for Google Checkout for 18 months and no problems to report. Far fewer attempts by buyers to pull chargebacks and no fees so it's basically a win-win situation for sellers. (No buyer has yet made a successful chargeback to date.) The only downside is I can't mention it in our eBay listings. However I plaster it all over our website checkout and offer discounted S&H to customers that use it...

I am gonna be using it cos they have an offer of £10 off £30 spend on ebuyer and other merchants!"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
