Wannabe honestly not picking on you in particular - I have noticed several people saying similar things ...... (both here & on the NSD thread)
Just wondering everyone's views on OHs paying for shopping / meals / treats etc ...... seems a bit unfair on the singletons (who obviously don't have that luxury) to me?
*relurks* (and awaits wet sponges being thrown at her)
We have separate finances rising. We put money in together for paying for groceries, bills etc and he gets to spend what he has left on his own stuff. Yesterday he chose to pay out of his own £ rather than our joint budget. So it doesn't count in my eyes.I unfortunately don't have the luxury of spare £ as mine goes on debts and stuff for the kids.

A user's debt on here might be their own - something that they do not want to weigh their other half down with.... a person should not EXPECT another to help them clear the debt they themselves created hence an OH maybe not getting involved or wanting to "treat" the contender... but if that OH wants to buy them treats now and then so be it. But that person has to contend with the OH wanting a different meal than them, wanting to do out, the pressure of creating something "different", yummy and cheap.. or thinking the challenge is silly and not helping at all!
Us singletons - yes we have no one else to buy things for us. We also have no one else to buy for hence some of us are keeping our maximum food spends to £40???
It swings both ways but I am glad you brought this up. If we ASK our other halves to buy us something that is cheating - we are doing this to break habits and realise where our money goes. If they OFFER to buy something this is different...
I cannot get involved in peoples lives to the point where they swear an oath but there is no point doing this challenge if indeed a person is hiding the truth...
NO wet sponges though don't worry...

Yes, this is also true. ALL of the debt is mine, every single penny. Plus I have a family of 4 to feed/clothe/entertain as well, including a couple of fussy kids (so I feel the pain of others with similarly fussy kids).
Not that I am in the slightest bit offended if I sound defensive. It's just a case of each to their own situation isn't it?Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
Morning everyone
The kids are playing upstairs, the heating is on, and the cat is sat by my feet. So all in all, its a lovely morning so far.
Today wont be a NSD though, as i forgot to buy washing up liquid when i did my weekly shop, so i will have to buy that today, as i just cant do without it.
Kat- in regards to your "what do you do with you leftover money when shopping weekly"..at the moment i am putting it into an empty jar, to use when things get a tad tougher at the end of the month. That way i'll stay within my £240 budget, and not have to use any money from the bank, just what i have stored in the jar.0 -
Another NSD planned for today which will make that 9 in total:)
Have been rummaging around in the freezer this morning and pulled out another 4 pinter plus some baguettes which we will use for lunch today. Found a couple more scones hidden away which I will use for snacks for kids.
Shepherds pie is in the slow cooker and will be dinners for me for Monday and Tuesday night, kids will have freezer leftovers as they don't like shepherds pie....shakes head...
Lunch will be the normal sandwiches etc.
Hoping to wait until Wednesday until venturing to the shops again, but that does depend on if the toilet roll lasts
Have realised that will only need food for a couple of days as me and bf are going away on 16th for the weekend (separate budget).
Very impressed with my petrol this month as 11 days in and I haven't filled up yet!!!! There could be some savings for my secret sock (loved the idea so am nicking it:D)
Have a great Sunday everyone xNovember NSD's - 70 -
It's been a busy and productive day and thankfully no monies have passed through my hands. :T
Did loads of gardening and emptied the compost bin, which in itself was incredibly hard work. Posted a birthday card and resisted all temptations to step inside any other shops en route. Instead I popped into the bank to ask them to up my mortgage payments and see if I could renegotiate a better interest rate - at least they didn't give me an outright no and said they would refer it to their pricing people.
To spite any constraints of November, I made a rather lovely Jamie Oil-iver 30 Minute Chicken and Smashed Potato thingo for dinner. Although I never really planned it, the most amazing thing about that was the fact that I did actually have all of the ingredients.
I am getting nervous that all my good intentions at shopping only one day each week may well be thwarted by a coffee shortage in the next few days. I will have to try real hard to make what I have last until Friday.Mortgage

was doing incredibly well until friday - but took the puppies to the vet for dental stuff (pre-planned and budgeted) and spoke to her regarding one of my dogs who has not seemed himself for a couple of weeks.....turns out he has lost lots of weight and there may be something wrong with him - could just be stress from all the building work that has been going on or could be something much more serious _pale_
upshot is, I have gone into freefall....I have gone out and bought everything I can think of to try to get his weight up - chickens, raw meats, ham hocks, pork scratchings, sausages and all manner of stuff which I am trying desperately to feed him in the hope that it is just stress, his weight will improve and I can stop the feelings of desperation and fear that I have....:(
I have blown all of my budget (and then some), I will probably not make my NSD target and I think it may be better if I bow out of this challenge until I know what is happening with him....I will continue to cheer you on from the sidelines thoughHope you all do well
