Want to be SE - check you out with all your goodies! This is incredible. I am doing my last minute buying and cooking tonight...
I am also going to run my weeks from Thursday to Thursday... how clever are we!!
I feel like a fajita night now.. this is the variety I am talking about!!!!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. I'd like to join you but I am most certainly not that hardcore and there are certain bits I can't be doing with, so I'll watch from the sidelines and do my own NOvember 'Lite'.
I don't like counting NSDs because I do like to go to all the supermarkets to check out the specials and it makes no odds to me if I go to the shops 5 times and buy one thing in every shop or if I go on one day and spend it all at once. However, I shall reduce and will only be going to shops to buy essentials and things that I need. I will give up on all beauty and toiletry items but may buy some Christmas and Birthday presents.
I need all the friends I can get so if someone invited me somewhere I would be there is a flash.
Good luck everyone!
You kinda sound like your a NOvemberite already? We appreciate you joining us for the ride though.. but a number awaits should you think you're brave enough? The NSD's are there to make us think, and plan ahead.. what deals are worth running to the shops for 5 times a week?
Planning a good batch cooking day and you wont NEED anything.. certainly won't need to go to the shops that often.. you could just check online..this will at least alleviate distraction purchases..
Plan those Christmas Presents now.. do you know who you are buying for and how much you are willing to spend or are you going to get to the shops and "see what catches your eye" - this is where I fail sometimes...
Birthday's yes I can see you wanting to make this special as any person would... but do you really like the person your buying for...:rotfl:..
Its amazing how many people buy out of obligation because they think they have too...
Are you a saver or a DFW...?“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. I used to get the fajita kits, for about £3..now i get the savers tortillas (49p), and the other bits (sauces etc) seperately and it costs me about £1.80 in total
All i'll need this coming week is breakfast and lunch stuff. Hoping it wont be too difficult on £60 a week.0 -
Thanks NinjaSavingKat, that's the wake-up call I need. I don't think you're being harsh, just realistic. Plus it's always good to get an objective opinion. I tend to shop out of boredom or if I'm stressed/upset, so I can momentarily make myself feel better. But I do realise that I'm on the way to having a bulging wardrobe with clothes in every hue and style, but NO HOUSE! Now is the time to choose.
I totally agree with you about how he banks/big companies treat consumers and can be quite savvy when I want to be. I suppose needs must now, if I want to be in my own house by the summer. I'm looking to buy something for no more than £100,000, ideally £95,000 (in West Yorkshire).
You are totally right that I am extremely lucky to have this chance to save, so count me in!
Today I have already booked a wet trim (for £7.50) at the hairdressers and I'm seeing friends for lunch (I'll have a snack before I go out for this) and other friends for dinner and a movie (it's half-term so this is the time I tend to catch up with friends). This will be my final big splurge for a while. As I said in the previous post, I've got some food in the freezer that needs eating and a massive stash of tolietries so don't need to the visit the shops until the weekend, just to spend my £25 per week on food. (A question should I draw the £100 I need for food over the month out, so I've got it in my hand and it can act as a physical reminder of my budget?).
Also NinjaSavingKat do tell me more about how you made £175 last month and the £10 a day challenge. I'd like to now generate some cash rather than spending it all!;););););););););):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

Just thought I would give you all a heads up here. Instead of buying something (especially when amazon is calling to me...:o) I sometimes try to enter a competition instead to divert my attention. Delia Online has all sorts of competitions monthly & I won a bottle of bubbly, squirreled away for Christmas:T. Believe me if I can win something you can!Frugal Challenge £9000
Grocery Challenge £tba pm £0 -
GelMC - you have been marked and you are numbered - WELCOME!!
You don't know how excited I am that you have joined us. I was wondering where in the UK you were regarding house prices but you still need £10,000 or thereabouts for a deposit yes? However anything under £125,000 is free of stamp duty - lucky girl!
Take out the £100. Each week carry £25 with you. If you need to plan food for when the freezer contents run out so that now.( any left over money put aside in a tin and start with a new £25, keep it clean and don't build up thinking you got more to spend )... make sure you have in your head where the food money is going... you are down to vegetables, cheap meat, large batches of soup and a lot of pasta.
Most importantly - you need to pay off the overdraft and credit cards. By my calculations you have £1200 left following paying everything off. This is where you need to start. Your peddling backwards by stashing it and accruing debt interest on your cards...
This bulging ward-robe intrigues me! When was the last time you emptied that bad boy out and rummaged for things you haven't worn in a year. Bet there is something!! I say you start by being ruthless... get rid of what hasn't been work in 6 months - 1 year, pile up "loved" items ready to be washed and pressed properly ( infront of the TV with a cuppa ).. make your wardrobe look new without buying anything.. starch your collars, experiment with new items and really get rid of what you don't need... then stick the rest on eBay..
This is where I made some of my money. I sold back £43 worth of books via Amazon's book trade-in although they do not give you cash they do pay for postage... confused.com/Motormate is an app that pays you £25 for good driving ( works on the bus ). I got my cheque last week although its only for the first 5000 people... more little bits on eBay.... books sold to FatBrain another book buy-back website... maybe working overtime or get a second job in a bar somewhere... I am a tee-totaller and had to color co-ordinate the bottles to know what I was mixinf - lol!!
Your mind is there and is eager.. .its just a case of being careful when handing over cash - as you will realize is harder than using a debit card... and really thinking DO I NEED THIS!!!
Good Luck though... Onwards and Upwards...( get those debts cleared today though )...“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
