I don't get the Apple thing. As far as I can can tell, if you put an 'i' before the name of the product you can charge far more, when others are about that can do the same or similar for a fraction the cost.

These people that queue up and must have the latest (didn't someone sell their kidney?) are like sheep, blindly following each other... its quite funny isnt it really?

wow, is it that simple, just put an i. what a genius you are, why don't you do something on similar lines, and make lot of dosh.

And others will make their decision based on a Google Nexus 7 costs £199 (16gb) and an Ipad Mini costs £269 (16gb). That 35% more expensive. Its also likely they'll drop the 16gb Nexus down to £169 soon; so that'll be a fun £100 difference (59% difference in price)

Running iOS does not qualify it as 'the best' (especially if you fancy getting from A to B with your portable device)

Running iOS does qualify it as the best in my books. The Nexus 7 being £199 might qualify that as the best in your books. I'm not sure what point you are trying to argue.

    No need to wait
the Nexus 16gb can be bought for £169 now

if you haven't experienced ios or android running on these specific devices you have no idea how either performs or which one would do what you want "better" as you put it - all you are saying is that you will blindly buy something with ios because you don't "think" anything is as good, rather than actually trying something before forming opinions

I think we're starting to go around in circles here and this doesn't really add anything useful. If you're of the opinion that I can't make a judgment about the iPad Mini until I actually have one in my hands, that's fine. I find that using my opinion of other, similar products is broadly good enough.

Apple do not consider Android a direct pricing competitor. You get people who will not consider anything else (e.g. mrochester) - so they effectively compete with their own products. The iPad Mini had to be priced between an ipod touch and an ipad 4

    e.g.
    Ipod touch 32gb = £249
    Ipad Retina 32gb = £479

The 'middle' would be £364 - only £15 difference to the price of an ipad Mini 32gb (£349)

This 'thread' might as well be a marketing ploy as it would be very hard to describe an ipad Mini as 'cheap' considering the equivalent competition are far cheaper

Where has this nonsense come from that means that purchasing an Apple product indicates that you haven't assessed or tried the competition? It just seems to me that people want to force their opinions on others, I.e., you bought an Apple product, and because I think Apple are rubbish it must mean you have been brainwashed and/or bought their product without even considering the competition. Why do some people appear to be so afraid of people having different opinions and preferences?

this is supposed to be a discussion about the new ipad, all you have said is that it's the best one because it's apple, without having used the device - we could look objectively at the hardware of the ipad mini against its rivals, but no, you refuse to look objectively at them (any particular reason?)
you refuse to see any negatives about apple (the maps fiasco for example)
if you have tried out the competition and this one seems better to you then lets hear the reasons why, what you are using the device for, how you use the device, what apps you think are valuable, what makes ios a better os on this form factor, how the lower resolution slightly larger screen is better than the rivals etc etc, to come on and say this is a better product because it's apple is simply ridiculous for anyone and moreso for someone that hasn't even used the device
