Small Tesco PS3 game vent and question

In my local Tesco PS3 games are not sold shrink wrapped any more. The boxes themselves are out on the shelf and not in those large protective cases. When you go to customer services to buy your game they have them loose and already opened in a drawer.
I'm not really happy with this in fact next time I want a game I most likely will go elsewhere. I like the fact that my game is sealed when I buy it. Taking off the wrapper is part of the fun of getting a new game especially if it is one you've waited for a long time.
When I queried it they said too many people are taking the boxes into the clothing dept, smashing the boxes off and stealing the games.
Is this policy across the whole of Tesco or just my local one?
If you are a gamer and you buy new games what are your opinions on this new policy?

I buy mine second hand from eBay and high street shops, a lot cheaper but very rarely shrink wrapped. Sometimes the DLC codes have already been used but that is the risk I run.
As long as it works and comes with the instructions I don't see a problem.
Perhaps you could buy your own shrink wrapping machine?0 -
Maybe I should've amended the original question to target it towards people who buy new games. I'll do that now.
I sometimes but not often buy second hand PS2 and Wii and DS games but here I'm talking about new PS3 ones that I specifically want to play on launch day (sad maybe but its my money and I'll spend it how I like) like the recent Resi 6 and forthcoming new Hitman.Don't grow up. Its a trap!

Blame it on the tea leaves who steal from shops. If it isn't nailed down, they'll steal it. And at about £40 a game, if 5 go walkabout that is £200 down the drain for a shop.
Did you know, on average, a shop only makes around 2% profit on a brand new game?0 -
I have noticed this but seeing as I am not a massive fan of wrapping on games/blu-ray discs etc it has not bothered me in the slightest.
Maybe try asda or sainsburys for new games as they are generally cheaper than Mr T anyways. No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0 -
My Tesco has dummy boxes, which are exchanged at customer services for a shrink wrapped game, the last game i bought was Fifa 13 about a week ago and it was sealed.
Just noticed this is a small tescos, the one i go to is a huge extra so prob not a good comparison:beer:0 -
When I used to work for Gamestation, this was standard practice. Games would come in, we'd gut them, and put the empty boxes on the shelves. However, for big releases, we also usually had boxes of sealed ones in the stockroom or the drawer.
The amount of thieves that go after games (high resale value for such a small item) it's easier to gut the games than to spend however much on anti-theft devices. Next time, maybe ask if they have any sealed ones?
Or, see if they will allow you to pre-order, which will then be put to one side as opposed to opened and gutted.0 -
I'm not fool enough to buy games from Tesco. They're destroying the industry.
Use shopto.net. Great prices, brilliant customer service, and you tend to get new releases a few days before they're released.0 -
to be honest with you i don't think it makes a difference because i bought a cd from tescos a while back and it was meant to have 3 cds in it, when we opened the shrink wrap and the case 1 disk was missing. i took it back to the store i bought it from and they didnt have the same one there so we picked another one and i'm sure the woman thought we were lying becuase she said well i'll do it this once but normally we wouldnt because it has to be the same.0

If you want them sealed then the answer is simple, buy them online or order them directly from suppliers. Having worked for 3 major high street retailers of video games over 10 years I can confirm that except in rare circumstances we take them out the packaging if they're over a certain price because of the thieving scumbags. Thank them the next time you see them for retail taking the games out the boxes & stop complaining about something that really is a necessity!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Thanks for the thoughts folks. I mainly do buy games online especially if it is a title I'm not too fussed about and want to check real user reviews before I buy.
Here I am specifically talking about games I really want on launch day and you can't always guarantee that the likes of Amazon will get it there on time - they didn't with Skyrim for example.
I will ask about reserving a wrapped copy of Hitman next month but if they aren't willing to play ball then I'll buy elsewhere. Asda have good prices sometimes and are about the same distance away. Mind you I tried them for Resi6 but they didn't have any Ps3 ones on launch day.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
