Some tips on making more money:

if you like a company and it fits in well for you, be the perfect shopper for them - good reports always in on time, always do job, willing to help out in emergencies etc. Good work does get rewarded with offers of more work and the first pick of "plum" jobs.

Always cost out the total job before accepting it - travel fees, parking, your time etc. If it's going to take you a long time to do a poor paying job, or you have to travel a fair distance to do it, then it's not worth doing. Remember to only factor in the cost of the purchase if it is of use to you. Things like groceries or toiletries are things we buy anyway. A meal out means both a treat for you, and you don't have to buy food to cook at home. Specific things like buying a baby item or a pet item are only of use if you will use them. If not you'll find yourself giving them away to friends, so there is no benefit to you.

Try and plan a few jobs in one place on the same day. It cuts your total time down if you can walk from shop to shop, rather than have to drive or use public transport between each one.

Watch out for jobs that pay a contribution to the purchase rather than the whole cost. I've just turned a job down where I would have to spend £37.50 plus more if certain options were offered, but would only get £23 back. I can't afford to pay the difference from my own pocket, especially as I wouldn't pay that much for this particular thing anyway!

And keep an eye on the website that I'm not allowed to post here for work available messages, to get there before anyone else does!

    Good luck all
Here I go again on my own....

You are entitled one if you think your self-employment earnings are going to earn you less than £4465 for the 2006/07 tax year.

In my case I think my earnings will be £500 MAX!

Do you know that you have to complete a tax return as well? Best thing to do is set yourself up a really simple spreadsheet detailing your jobs.

    Hope that helps!

    :p
Thanks, I definitely know my earnings will be under that. Hopefully I won't get too many bills then. Thanks a lot :T

Just to warn you-I've just rang the HMRC to register as self employed and the guy told me that there will be a £100 penalty charge as i did not register in the first 3 months-thats what you get for being honest.
And how much money have I made through mystery shopping since i started (in May)?

    About £40!!

He said that I can appeal against it...

    Very annoyed.

That's so unlucky. Definitely appeal. I only had 2 days to go before I hit the three month date but I didn't realise they would charge if people go over. It's cheeky of them

I've done a few jobs for them now and I'm happy. They're the only company I've wanted to do so far as the pay is reasonable and I can fit the jobs in around my life. I work full time, and long hours, but I've been able to do their jobs in my lunch break or a Saturday morning. Other sites seem to have more jobs, but they're either out of my way, crap pay and often having to eat fast food, which I hate.

Anyway, after doing decent reports on my first few shops I've now been offered one of the 'popular' jobs ;) (can't say what obviously!) so I'm very pleased.

Did a lovely sandwich shop today ;)

Has anyone done the ones where you "reveal" yourself as the mystery shopper at the end? By taking off your cape, I assume... Anyway, there's one on TNS and I don't know whether to go for it or not. Worried I might feel stupid!
