Hi I have just recieved a letter from Barclaycard,
"Further to your request for copy statements,we are writing to inform you that the 40 day legal time limit for supplying this information is about to expire.
The reason for the delay in our providing this information is the very large number of identical requests that we have recieved, all of which are obliged to respond to in the same timescale.
We have made the Information Commissioner's Office aware of the volume challenges we face and that we are writing to you in these terms. We are sorry for the delay but assure you that we will let you have your statements as soon as we can.
We regret that we are not able to enter into correspondence with you about this issue."

    Is this a standard letter??
    Anyone else had one??
Oh and it just goes to show that they are either just trying to delay things or they are getting alot of people asking!!!
Hi Just got same letter, delaying tactics i think
  • Hi,

I am still awaiting statements from Barclays also. I know you have to wait 40 days but I still haven't even received an acknowledgement that they have received my letter and by looking at some of the posts, it looks like they are going to be a problem bank

Anyone who has received their statements, how long did they take and did you get charged?

    Thanks

I (like about a million others at the last count!) have been trying to reclaim charges from bank accounts and credit cards.

At least 2 of these are historical accounts which are closed.

It was my understanding that banks and credit card companies had to retain my records for a certian period of time, presumably 6 years, which would be in keeping with the time frame you can request records from.

I received a letter from Barclaycard this morning stating that they had no record of an account ever being opened in my name.

They asked if I had moved address or got married (name change), but also mentioned that the account may have simply been deleted from their system.

Is this simply a ruse to dissuade me from pursuing my claim or can they legally destroy all traces of our financial relationship?

The funny thing is I've just found a statement dated February 2004 so they will get sufficient proof ;)

If you didn't supply an account number they may genuinely not have been able to find your account. Of course they may not have looked too hard. Sending them a copy of your statement should be more than sufficient for them to comply.

When I first claimed over a year ago, I tried to engage the bank into a discussion about charges. I tore the points in their letters to shreds in my replies, but to no avial. I couldn't get them to deviate from their standard replies.

Of course they paid up, but it would have been more satisfactory to get some answers. I hope you get more back than I did!

Hehe, No answers, but a full payout with interest. I was seriously tempted to continue with the court process to see if i could get any answers....it would have been worth the £500 reclaimed if i did ;)

I have requested Barclaycard statements too and I have checked the Royal Mail Tracker and it says on there it still hasnt been delivered.

I will contact the IC if I dont receive the details sureley if they get enough complaints they can do something about it.

Should I check with post office to double check they had my letter?

Strange you should say that.. I sent my letter requesting my statememnts on 13th feb and it still has not tracked on the royal mail website so i called royal mail and they say it still hasn't been delivered but i have to wait untill 4th march untill it will be considered lost in the post... very annoying!!!!

    Pigs BAck = 1230 points
    Boots Card = £19.42
    Tesco points this 1/4 = 6523
    Tesco Vouchers saved = £65

  • My 40 day time limit was up on Thursday 12th Feb, duly rang them but was told to ring back on Monday as no-one in the dept to take my call, rang back as asked and was told there was nothing they could do that end and to wait a bit longer.
On sat 24th I received a letter dated the 12th saying they realised the 40 day time limit was about to expire, they had informed the Information Commissioner's office because of the volume of requests of the same nature and they would let me have the list of charges as soon as they could.
Now how long should I wait, they have very craftily put a note at the bottom of the letter saying they are not able to enter into correspondence with me about this issue.

  • If you provide Barclaycard with your addresses at the time of holding the card, your full name and date of birth, this shold be sufficient for them to access and deliver all your information to you including the number and charges.

You say this but I'm in exactly the same position as Mathew and have now rang Barclaycard three times trying to find my old account number so I could use one of the standard template letters. Apparently me living at my old address was a figment of my imagination though!
  • Barclays certainly seem to be the worst at providing in the initial information/statements. You need to report via Information Commission.
