Hello all, hoping you lovely people can help me.
A few years back when I was young and silly (well, still young but hopefully a bit less silly) I had a Barclaycard with quite a large credit limit. Being 18 and stupid, I ran up quite a bill. I never defaulted on any payments and always paid on time, but it was always minimum payments I made, or slightly more.
A few months later I moved in with my boyfriend and my mum kindly offered to pay the bill as his parents put a deposit on a house down for us, so this was her way of contributing.
So I stupidly left the statements going to her house.
Fast forward, my dad left my mum, my mum is in financial dire straits and couldn't pay my card. I have no issue with this, as it was kind of her to offer anyway and I would have taken on the payments again. Anyway, I had no idea this was going on and it was only a year after she stopped making the payments that she actually told me.
The bill more than doubled in terms of interest, charges etc.
I have been paying it back for over 2 years now and now I'm wondering if I can claim back some of the charges to try and make a bit of a dent in the outstanding balance. However, it's now with Credit Security Limited and I don't know who I should write to, to get copies of the statement.
Can anyone help?Wannabee champagne girl...on a beer income.0 -
You can claim your charges up to six years ago, so that isn't a problem.
You still get your statements and send all your letters to Barclaycard, even though the account is with a dca.
You won't have any problems getting the money back with a credit card, they aren't on hold like bank charges but I don't know if you will get a cheque or if they will knock it off the balance with the dca.0 -
Thank you.
I knew I could claim back, just wasn't sure who to write to. I've paid back about £1800 so far, but it would be nice to try and get some of the charges back to knock another dent out of it. Don't really care about getting a cheque or whether it goes against the debt, either way is fine by me!
Wooo, feeling quite positive. About to launch my attack!
Has anyone else claimed back sucessfully from Barclaycard?Wannabee champagne girl...on a beer income.0 -
Hi - Have been trying to reclaim from both Visa and Mastercard cc accounts. Barclaycard have credited my accounts with two payments - that they say is the full return of charges plus 8% interest !!! but neither added up to what I was claiming - they gave back £1100
(lovely !!) but £280  short overall ( - so I wrote and asked for a breakdown of their calculations in case it was me that got it wrong (very poss !!), they wouldnt tell me so am now paying to take them to court (can afford it now ). Was just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them and what the outcome was ???? - Thanks

I would be happy with the £1100. My friend took the bank to court and lost everything, not worth it!No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I sent my request for refund of credit card charges to Barclaycard on 16th September, it was signed for on 18th September and so far I've not heard anything.
For some reason I thought they were supposed to reply within 14 days but now I can't see where I read this. Is this true or am I imagining things?
What should I do next?
Thanks0 -
I had to wait 28 days for a response from Barclaycard and they paid up without arguing. Although it was only £170.00No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

If you used the templates on here, you would have given them 14 days. You are specifying the timetable, if they don't stick to it, check Martin's Reclaim article for your next steps, the link is in my signature.0
