Lots of bridal shop owners have small children too - can they afford for TBGG brides to come in, use their premises, be served by the staff that they are paying and all their overheads as well as using up valuable appointments whilst making no money, when in fact they could be selling to their own brides and making an honest living?? The only designers who will accept the remaining balances on dresses are the ones who have received initial deposits from TBGG so let's not have a go at the shops who are trying to help out. Ultimately lots of brides will get their initial deposits back so if they only paid the balance they would get their dress half price!!

I am so happy to see that a lot of shops do not see it that way and I just hope that the shops who are busy enough anyway and do not really want to help, turn these brides away and another store will help them.

Nobody is having a go at the shops who want to charge full price again instead they are simply showing that morally this is not the way to handle distraught brides. Don't you think the brides have been through enough and could use a little understanding right now.

Anyway lots of people will do everything they can to help and I think if you read other peoples posts you will see that the Designers are simply accepting the balance even though they have not been paid by tbgg. So good on them and they should be applauded.

The ladies that are getting the dresses sent to your homes or through other businesses, had you placed your order some time ago or was it fairly recent? The designer of my dress Pronovias have not told me the status of my order and if it had been placed or not, only that its kind of irrelevant, either way the contract had been broken between themselves and BGG so therefor they could not continue with the original order. I would need to contact a new business and start again.
  • I have not received any letter off tbgg yet informing me of whats going on . I have prob got more info off here!
  • i just hope they are happy with themselves after what they have done, i don't hold anything against the staff but the directors must be to blame.

I'll probably get slated for this but these things happen! It's why we have insurance! It's a horrible situation to be in for us brides but I can guarantee the directors are kicking themselves. I've watched a lot of companies go under over the past few years and not one of the owners/directors has wanted it to happen. Nobody wants to see their hard work be wasted a watch clients lives be devistated. Do you think you could do a better job? I doubt it! Posting personal Facebook account is such a low blow!! From what I can see there are two ladies trying to sort this out, contacting hundreds of brides as well as personally delivering dresses all over the North West. It's going to take a while to sort out and get round to everyone. I hope you all get your dresses sorted soon, my wedding is in 3 weeks so this was the last thing I needed but its happened x

Of course they are to blame!!!! They were still taking money on the day of closure?? The suppliers are saying they have been struggling for months!! You maybe one of the lucky ones who's got insurance but us naive ones who trusted them don't !!
I am so gratefull to my designer for making me feel at ease and sorting my gown out so I don't have to pay full price or reduced price to get it delivered to another shop!! Some of you may be able to afford to pay another deposit but I certainly can't , and knowing they are offering brides there sample gowns but have to pay as if there buying a full price gown through PayPal shows me this family have no scruples what so ever!!
  • I'm not saying they are not to blame. It's their company and they have probably made some wrong choices in regards to their finances. From what I understand they were hoping they would get last minute help from the bank. In regards to taking money up until the day before, that's what usually happens.
Yes I do have insurance, because of the amount of money we are spending on the wedding. Anything could happen, even the wedding venue could go bankrupt, suppliers etc.
It's good that people are able to help out on here with advice and support but people are starting to get vindictive and cruel.
  • I really hope all you ladies get your gowns. Its a horrible situation for especially those with weddings really close. Whilst I am not defending the BGG Directors, I think that there but for the grace of god go a lot of small businesses these days. In this climate a lot (and not just bridal businesses) are surviving hand to mouth. I imagine BGG kept going thinking they could rescue it at the last minute. What I do have to say ladies is please, please, please learn from this. I cant tell you how many BGG customers are phoning around dozens of bridal shops asking for the best price on replacement gowns. Please think why the BGG have gone bust. They were offering the most ridiculous deals and discounts just to to get cash in to their bank account. At the end of the day any business has to make enough money to pay suppliers, rent, rates, utilities and buy stock so please, please see that if an offer looks too good to be true, it usually is

I ordered my dress in June 2011, and i get married in less than 9 weeks now, my dress arrived in the shop early September, and i went to try it on and pay for it in September also. My dress is due to be delivered on Thursday this week to my mums house.
  • So Luckyrusty tell me how it is fair that the brides will gain a half price dress, TBGG will gain the 50% deposit (straight in their pockets), as you all speculate to be profit, yet the shops offering to step in and help out have to bear the brunt of the over heads to cover the appointments for brides needing our help......Because I can bet you no single bride would be happy to just collect without trying on a dress they are then paying out hundreds of £'s for.
In what world is that fair on us bridal shop owners trying our best to ensure we are also still here for when our own bride's dresses are to be delivered.

We have a responsibility to our brides to ensure we are still in business, if we are messing around for free to help out brides that didn't originally choose to buy from us, how can we ensure we will still be available to our brides!!!

Why would you buy a dress costing £1k without insurance if you were booking a holiday would you not also buy insurance?
