Oh, just as I head out- enfin, ENFIN - TOG, you were not harsh, but the slowness of this system, ever accompanied by the fear that that wretched 'Aw Snap!' face thing for chrome will appear again as my screen blanks, carting[sometimes] HOURS of work with it......
Even the tooth-gnashing smilie comes nowhere near articulating that rage mixed with hopelessness it engenders.

    re-bonjour!

I've ended up staying here until Primus rang back[result of further call from them] feeling it was important just to hang on in and WAIT.
Primus's Mohammed in Lancashire has just hung up, with promise to call back before he leaves at 18h. It was a long call as he asked me to do many things as you all have and I was glad to tell him of the help on here.
The speedtest.net results were asked for.
He then directed me to https://www.speedtester.com, thence to BT Office tests, which he wanted run three times.
He is sending these to BT.

Phone lines were renewed several years ago. They extend to the telegraph pole sited on the boundary with neighbour, so nothing too drastic. He'd asked about this too.

Nothing more, except his surprise at some results.

Just in - em from Primus saying nothing back from BT yet. Quelle surprise, je suppose.

    Thankyou dcm.

    Router - technicolorTG582n.

    Below are 4 barcodes:

    SN: CP12O[or theta?]1VF1QS - the '0' has a slash, hence bracket note.
    GW: DSLWBC582PAES
    MAC:
    ACCESS KEY:

    Thomson Telecom

    Wireless User codes:

    Network name: TNCAPSE79A3
    Wireless Key:
    ############

Yes, there is a microfilter on the lead from the phone socket under my bed across to the computer.

Not sure what's meant by 'all of your phone sockets.'

    I use only this one.

ok, to access your line stats in the router, type 192.168.1.254 into the ADDRESS BAR of a browser (NOT a google search bar, the one at the top of the browser where http://www.whatever.com is situated). Default login is Administrator and the password should be left blank. OTTOMH, those technicolor (Thomson) routers were a bit of a pain to find the stats, see if you can at least get into it first :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Gunjack - you are good:-)

I was amazed to do this just now and find a Primus bit:
    Technicolor TG582n
    Administrator

    Home
    Technicolor Gateway
    Broadband Connection
    Toolbox
    Remote Assistance
    Game & Application Sharing
    Parental Control
    Firewall
    Intrusion Detection
    Dynamic DNS
    User Management
    Content Sharing
    Home Network
    Help

Home > Toolbox > User Management Overview | Configure

    User Management
This page provides you with information regarding the users configured on your Technicolor Gateway.

    Local User Data
The table below shows the configured users who are able to access your Technicolor Gateway. You need to configure user privileges if you want to differentiate between people using your Technicolor Gateway. The current privileges of the user are mentioned in the privileges column.

    Username Privileges Default User

    Administrator Administrator

    Pick a task...
    Change my password
    Set the default user
    Add new user
    Switch to another user
    #############
However, nowhere do I see a log-in option, consequently no p/w space, unless I'm to adapt the Change p/w element in some way? ...no, doesn't look useful.
I'm back mid-morning tomorrow, but need to be working on my boxes for Thursday. Will pop in and out during day.

If you can see all that then you are already logged in, you just need to find the router stats. Possibly under 'broadband connection'.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
