'insufficient band width' - bbc i-player

If you scroll down below more options, just above BBC you should see lower bandwidth
...or he/she could install BBC iPlayer Desktop and download the programme before watching it. This would solve the bandwidth problem.0 -
Thanks tronator[really just nipped to post an Offered on freecycle] -
I have tried with and w/o desktop.
Makes no difference and, in fact, desktop informs me that Montalbano failed to download for me hier soir. I'd been trying to watch it in realtime, but the screen went dark with no msg of any kind about 20 mins in.
I read instead.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Are you using wifi ?. This might be an issue. Depending on how far away from the router the PC is, if you are using wireless 'G' you might have streaming issues due to the drop in bandwidth.0

Possibly a daft question, but have you switched the TV mode over from analogue to digital before trying to do the auto retune? Because it won't be successfully finding any analogue channels...No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I'm afraid I don't understand techspeak, so my answer has to be 'd.k'.
I see wifi written about everywhere, but don't know if I have it.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Thankyou too, macman - much of above answer applies again.
I am not unfamiliar with the terms, but the sense of them is not my truc.
How would I know whether or not I had done this? How can I do it?CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

How is your PC connected to your router? By a cable (ethernet) or by wireless (no visible physical connection)? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hello again macman- and another Thankyou.
It's getting too dark to garden now and it's raining so here I am.
Just googled 'router' to see what one looks like. Yes, mine attaches with wires.
Just now, I've put Nigel Slater on and things are proceeding as usual, i.e. stop/startily. presumably because I have both mse and bbc open - rien d'autre though.
So, as throughout most things, the pixel breakdown stutters up at times, to be followed or not by the big pink centre circle arrow rotating clockwise over a still prog. frame or a dark screen, then it catches up with itself and the missed movement gallops forward to realtime[I assume.] The speech also catches up, but unwarped.
Does this explain anything more?.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

To change between standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) in BBC iPlayer.
- Open iPlayer
- Choose a TV program and click on it say the new Merlin
- Under the window where the video plays there are details of the program
Merlin- Series 5
3 the death of Uther Pendragon - Just under that there is a toolbar with Favourite, Link to this Download Options and Watch in HD (or Watch in SD)
- Click on Watch in SD to change to SD and vice versa. If you are watching in SD it will confusingly say Watch in HD
