TV Licence - misleading and confusing

My laptop is capable of receiving signals, I told the TVL that, but was told I still did not need a license if I didn't watch live tv on it. The Capita people would find that in my house.0

I too will ring and get it recorded too as proof, as my freesat box is capable of listening to radio and watching iplayer so it will be tuned so not sure what the bit about finding a tuned TV is about in that link as it also says
A television licence is only required if you actually use that device to receive live television. If you do not receive live television, you do not need a licence.
not sure if "receive" is the same as "watch" but either way it doesn't make things any clearer.
anyway if you ring and speak to them before me, please update the thread.

All I can quote again is:-
Owning a device that is capable of receiving live television does not require you to purchase a television licence.
So I think you would have a good case to argue even if the tv or device was tuned in and capable of receiving live tv.0 -
Ha ha, you quoted the same bit as me!!
I will,
Night night - going to watch strictly now if its on i-player now - probably won't be yet though.0 -
I don't know anything about that. My mobile is capable of accessing the Internet but I never use it for that as I can't afford it. I don't have a data package.
I said Night but just seen this, so before I go, T-Mobile did or still do, as I have one, a payg sim that gives 500mb of date every month for just one £10 topup in a year, yes one a year not a month, the minutes etc are rubbish but I have T-mobile on by iphone and use another phone for calls, so worth thinking about if you need the data.0 -

I wouldn't even know how to detune my television!
I cancelled my license properly and applied for a refund but got some hassle (three letters in as many weeks IIRC when I was actually ahead on direct debit!) so wrote to TV Licensing saying they had no permission to visit me, but that I did still have a television set which I intended to use for watching DVDs. They wrote an apology, didn't tell me I should detune the set.
If you were to watch TV on your mobile, wouldn't it only be a crime if the premises you were in at the time didn't have a license? How does that work if you are in the street? Would you have to be covered by your home license?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

I think I would be worried about going over the 500mb of data and getting charged, mind you, I suppose if its on PAYG, you couldn't.
I'm on Voda but at the moment have had to go back to using my old phone from donkeys years back anyway as I've cracked the screen on my smartphone. Should send it back under warranty but will have to pay £25 excess on the insurance to get it changed. Got more inportant things to spend the £25 on to be honest.
I will look into that though when I get the phone fixd, thanks0
