In 2006/7 I had letters for 8/9 months addressed to me but I ignored them as well I had no need to pay for a licence.

Then knock at the door out of the blue, TVL guy...told him no I have no licence thats correct when asked, "do you have a TV", yes I replied "come in" & proceeded to show him my 42" plasma connected to a Acer Windows Vista Home Theatre PC which is always on so I hit standby on the remote & he seen the Vista desktop.

I proceeded to show him my iplayer, Sky & 4oD desktop downloaded program apps, he then said do I have a tuner on my pc, yes I replied and pulled the Acer forward showing him the tuner was not connected to anything.

Next he asked "do you have a tv connection to the wall socket", "yes" I replied, "but you dont watch live tv?" - "NO" I replied, "I wouldnt pay to watch the SH!TE they put on TV these days since I got Virgin pulled out a few years ago when I was licenced" proceeded onwards "I listen to the radio on the TV though as it is digital and I dont have another "radio" in the house, feel free to walk about the house and look for one though if you want, I also I have a friends old xbox in my bedroom for 'catch-up' tv also you can check out"

"Sorry to disturb you Mr Diamonds" as he walked back into the hall "I shall remove you from the list, it lasts for two years just update us if you have a change of circumstances beforehand, thankyou for your honesty & time" he said as I walked him down the hall from the lounge to the door and wished him a good day.

Not had 1 letter in my name over the following two years, nor since then - they have all been addressed to the occupier and put in the recycling without reading them.

I'm waiting for a better and cheaper alternative to the expensive YouView, until then its the Acer now on Windows 7, iplayer etc & video sites as usual ;)

Frankly if every broadband connection had to be linked to a "digital licence" we would all pay £2-5 a month for it & it might justify the cost to me and be fairer for all, 60+ million households and I refuse to play £24 nor £12 a month subsidy to the 90% of households who dont pay because the BBC Trust cant figure out to collect a digital licence of a few quid from broadband connections and spend millions apon millions of TV Licence fees hounding people who mostly cannot afford £24/£12 a month on DWP/low incomes, frankly ANY higher tax rate people caught dodging TVL fees should be jailed & made a mockery out of, not fined.

Like most governmental depts, BBC does not know its a$$ from elbow on good decision making, fairness or debt collection.

Is it not great the Tories pulled the "Commonwealth BBC budget" and NOW we are all expected to pay for BBC Worldwide divisions ? idiots, Tories & BBC alike !....how to get less people to pay their TVL, make UK people pay for the BBC worldwide divisions

A good education does not equal common sense, it means you can absorb information and then write it down to a decent understanding of absorbation NOT you have ANY common sense, I can buy more efficient absorbent kitchen roll at the shops thanks, I dont need these twits running my country!
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I find it very hard to imagine a magistrate ever granting a warrant for such a purpose.

    They are pretty rare.

Derbyshire Police did not attend a single TVL Search Warrant execution, in 2011/2012.

If you had been removed from the list, why were you still receiving letters?

BTW. I take it you are aware, that person was quite possibly not CRB checked?

No letters for 2 years, then addressed to THE OCCUPIER since.

My names not down and so they are not coming in (again) lol

He showed me ID, he was a small skinny bloke & I let him in, I had nothing to hide.

Anyone dares try attack/steal from me in my home they will leave injured or dead, end of....its called survival instinct, by law - self defence.

I have a "minimalist" property anyway as I hate clutter/ornaments (well a few large items) nothing on show to steal anyway (not even a radio lol).

Saying that I have even contacted the local police when they have turned up at my door in the past to verify them as real police officers before opening the door fully & letting them in my property. 2 very well built six foot + policemen talking about a car I knew nothing about that apparently was mine ? was very suspicious so I called police switchboard.

Turned out a private reg I had owned at one point and sold had DVLA info the transfer to new car was mine ? no wonder I did not know the car description or its generic reg plate the police officer asked me about, as the private reg had again been removed and sold on but previous car still had my name details at another address - the person I sold the reg too !

Thats what usually happens when you outsource privately as a governmental body - mistakes are made and no-one is accountable, its kind of hard to prove you never owned a car if DVLA insist to police you did !

I pulled 9 years of bank statements out with my addresses when the officers were getting angry and insistent I had owned the car then they said I must have registered my car at another address & that was a crime as I was misleading DVLA ??? then I told them to leave and any further insinuation or attitude from them would result in a complaint to chief executive, I had given them all the info possible & answered their questions & if they had no more and only accusations they were leaving.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Surrendering your privacy, and submitting to a house search, seems a lot, just to prevent 24 letters being received.

Doesn't alter the fact he may well not have been CRB checked.

A bit like the BBC outsourcing to Crapita?

I once considered letting them in to observe my licence-free set up but have decided against it after reading many instances of where others have been stitched up when they did. It's just easier to ignore the letters they send.

Well, anyone thinking about letting them in to check your licence free status might want to google "michael shakespeare tv" and read a few of the pages that come up and then see if you think that's a good idea.

    Can some please advise me.
I was in work today and got a telphone call to say that there were police officers at my door with a warrant for my arrest. I thought it was a joke and contacted my local police station.
They told me that I never had a tv licence in MAy 2008. I must add at this time that I was under the impression I did have a licence because my now ex husband paid for it from his account. Im going to assume he stopped payments.
I moved house in JUne 2008 and phoned TV licence and got the licence changed to my new address and bank details altered to mine. I have been paying this ever since.
I have had no letters concerning a beak in payment. When I contacted them to change the details no one mentioned anything. There ha been no letters to my current address and I never knew of any court date. As I was unaware of a court date, I never attended. I was fined in my absence. I was unaware of such fine and therefore failed to pay it which has now resulted in it becoming a criminal matter and a warrant has been issued for my arrest.
I have to pay £500 or spend 7 days in jail. I do not have £500. I have 3 children and have noone to mind them if I am sent to prison.
Is there anyway that I can fight this? I have had a licence in my name/account from June 2008 when I split from my husband so TV licence could easily have sent letters to my current address but I received nothing.
    What can I do?
Edit - I live in Northern Irealand

you should be able to get the warrant set aside if you did not recieve notice of the fine.

Maybe post this in the CAB section on this forum for better more detailed help.
