I read the OP and was struck with horror! I was always under the impression that a £0.01 flight would cost me just that and include a meal and drinks. Its a disgrace.

oh no not another "never again with ryanair" punter, the theme that runs through the endless slagging of ryanair posts is the moaner has usually only made 1 or 2 flights with them

i know there are several posters on here like me who have made dozens of flights with ryanair...we use them because of the excellent service ryanair provide, and are mature enough to realise to that next to nothing flight prices does have its drawbacks

of course the real truth about those "never fly again" posts is not that the poster will pay double the fare to fly with someone else, they just dont envisgae travelling again to the same destination that ryanair went to last time

who is going to pay double the fare to travel with someone else to the same destination, same time, same departure airport

come on be honest on this moneysaving site, a moan is one thing but shelling out double the fare next time to travel with BA or another carrier isnt going to happen is it

1 million passengers this easter with ryanair..says it all

have a moan they deserve it sometimes but be honest

all in all my family and all the other passengers on my flight back from spain were disgusted with ryan air and will never travel again.

Such a shame - just means there will be more cheap seats that appreciate ryanairs budget flights.

Last month i flew ryanair to sardinia - cost me less than £40 return including baggage fees, i have just booked return flights to rimini for next month for £42 including baggage fees. If you can find me a better deal on BA flying from a midlands airport i will eat my hat.

    a well made argument ynot.

my own objections stem from the appalling way they treat their staff. and the fact they see cheap fairs as a liscense to treat you like crap.

But Principles cost and as i have started venturing back in to Asda after vowing never to spend a penny in their again due to Wal Marts shocking practises worldwide and most significantly banning employees from joining a Union ( or at least faling to acknowledge it). like Ryan air you cannot fault Asda's prices ( or selection of Real Ales  ). at the end of the day you have let people fight their own battles i,m afraid.

if i take a ryan air flight again i will make sure they are losing money on me by not spending anything on extras...that will cleanse my guilt ;) .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Before the check-in baggage charges began, i was helping my OH move his stuff from just outside london to scotland, to come live with me. I flew back to Scotland on my own with his guitar in a heavy, hard case, and a suitcase bulging full of clothes, as well as my own hand luggage of a weekeends worth of clothes etc.

The guy on the desk was EXTREMELY helpful and considerate in charging excess baggage. He subtracted my hand luggage allowance even though i had nearly reached it anyway with my hand luggage, rounded down the weight and then multiplied by price per kilo. It work out substantially less than i was expecting and i could not have asked for better service! All from a budget airline!!

I used to travel quite frequently with ryanair, and have travelled the last couple of times with BA as the airports they fly to are more convenient for me now, but i have to say i've never had major problems with either. There have been delays with both airlines, and there's definitely a better service on BA, but what do you expect?! Just because you don't pay a lot for something doesn't mean that you shouldn't read the terms and conditions. It's mad to me if people book flights without reading them fully!

We have flown Ryanair several times and had no cause to complain at all!

We recently flew to Santiago de Compostela and back, 1p each person each way. Even with taxes and taking one 15kg bag each way it only came to £40. That's what I call cheap. They let you take carry-on luggage up to 10kg as long as the bag is not too big, and plenty were doing this. They make no secret of their policy, although there were a few idiots who were moaning at excess baggage charges as they hadn't tead the T&Cs. Tough:confused:

We didn't buy anything on board, we took drinks from the airport and the staff have never objected if you consume your own food on board. (We usualy take bacon sarnies on morning flights;)) The stuff is expensive and the scratchcards a ripoff, so don't buy them. It's not complicated:D

As for the suggestion that BA are better timekeepers than Ryanair, the figures don't stack up. Ryanair are actually the most punctual, far more so than BA. We have flown Liverpool - Porto and East Midlands - Santiago in the last few months with Ryanair, and every flight was early. The return from Santiago by 40 minutes!

Ryanair are cheap with no frills and no free extras, but they are what they are. Use them wisely and get bargains. But read the small print, like you would with anything else. Or would you.....? ;)
  • i'm new to this but this subject gets my goat so i feel the need to express my feelings. the comment about a bus with wings is spot on, you are paying for a seat and that is it, its a sad fact of life nothing is free, but i reckon a penny is pretty near to it. last year my ryanair flight back from lubeck was cancelled due to bad weather, we were offered a seat on the next flight or our money back, well you can imagine the queue for a refund can't you, of course we all wanted our penny back!
by charging for hold luggage ryanair are trying to encourage less people to take it, by doing this they get a faster turnaround, time is money to o'leary!
last but not least read the t&cs!

Not talking rubbish dmg24, flown may times from Gatwick on BA because it was cheaper than easyJet or Ryanair, offering very good value for money and a lower total cost of my holiday.
Interestingly enough, the only time we chose BA (because of their reasonable fares from Gatwick and civilised flight times) to fly to Crete, rather than flying on a charter from a far more local airport, we arrived 7.5 hours LATE due to an aircraft fault, which meant we got there exactly the same time as all those charter flights from our local airports.

So the net benefit from using BA was an extra 8 hours' driving for nothing.

We expected BA to be able to rustle up a spare plane given they fly hundreds of the things from Heathrow and Gatwick, but not a chance - we had to wait for them to fly the PARTS in from another airport because they didn't even have the right parts at Gatwick to undertake the necessary repair.

And our compensation for this delay? £50 each in BA vouchers which we haven't been able to use, and which can only be used against NON-online fare which are £25 or £30 more expensive than online fares in any case.

BA - bloody awful I say.

you dont have to have meals on board or buy drinks on board, just take your own drinks but you will need to buy the drinks after you have beeen searched, weigh your bag before you fly, just minimalise on what you take

Sorry if this has already been asked elsewhere... but how exactly do RyanAir make money? Are there hidden charges somewhere, disguised as tax?

I've flown with them to Dublin and back, didn't have a problem with them - you get what you pay for...
