ryan air may seem cheap tickets, but you probably know that you have to pay for meals drinks ect.
but did you know that you only get 15kg of baggage per bag and 1 bag per pax? even if you have 2 bags for four people you still only get 15 kg in each bag!!! which realy isn't a lot of clothes if you suitcase already weighs 4kg empty!!
bear in mind that you have already paid ryan air a baggage fee on top of your seat price!
ryan air are very strict if you are 1/2 a kilo over they will charge.
once you are through checkin and paid your baggage charge you have to quickly go through to the boarding gate to queue so your family can sit together,as you do not get preassigned seats. well i suppose after paying a baggage charge you won't have any money left to spend on duty free!!
or you could pay yet another fee so you can sit together.
if you add all the fees up it would be far cheaper, quicker, comfortable, less hassle, convienient to travel with BA.and ba fly on time.
all in all my family and all the other passengers on my flight back from spain were disgusted with ryan air and will never travel again.
how do they still manage to keep going if they have no repeat customers?
there must be an awfull lot of week end trippers and business flights!!

It is the loyalty to perceived cheap and not value for money or low total cost that keeps them going.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Where have you been for the past few years?
Many of the low cost airlines charge for baggage now, and even with this they can often work out cheaper than BA etc.
Also, in terms of short haul routes, you get a much greater choice of destinations with the low cost airlines, particularly from regional airlines.
If you are only travelling for a few days, Ryanair do allow you to take 10kg of hand luggage, which means you can often get away without taking hold luggage at all.but did you know that you only get 15kg of baggage per bag and 1 bag per pax? even if you have 2 bags for four people you still only get 15 kg in each bag!!! which realy isn't a lot of clothes if you suitcase already weighs 4kg empty!!
The t & c's do state that baggage allowance cannot be combined.ryan air are very strict if you are 1/2 a kilo over they will charge.
This tends to be at the discretion of the airport staff. I don't doubt that it does happen, but if you are polite and friendly with the staff, they do tend to give some leeway.
I know someone that regularly goes through with 20kg's, but because he is so friendly, he has got to know the staff and they are fine with it.once you are through checkin and paid your baggage charge you have to quickly go through to the boarding gate to queue so your family can sit together,as you do not get preassigned seats. well i suppose after paying a baggage charge you won't have any money left to spend on duty free!!

Absolute rubbish. No airline guarantees that you can sit together, even where seats are allocated upon check in, unless you pay extra. The fee for Priority Boarding is £2 per person. If you can afford to be flying in the first place, then I am sure that £2 isn't going to break the bank.
I think this is more a case of you having had one bad flight, which can happen with any airline, and not reading the t & c's properly. I really can't see which costs that Ryanair have hidden from you, that were not clear at the time of booking.Gone ... or have I?0 -
If you know what you are getting yourself into in the first place, they are fine. Educate yourself on the wonders of Ryanair luggage restrictions, then try and play an exciting game of 'lets not give Ryanair any more money' by compiling a ticklist of the following:
1) Luggage is all carry-on, and under the weight requirement in ONE bag
2) Speedy boarding not required, just sit near the front of boarding gate
3) Online check-in not required, just get there early
4) Untick 'insurance' multiple times, on every page
5) Pay by credit, erm, debit, erm Ryanair's credit, erm, !!!!!!, unable to get out of paying extra on this one
6) Don't buy rip-off food on board (smuggle a Pret sandwich & bottle of water, drink & eat when not being observed by sales staff / flight attendants)
7) Don't buy extras on board, avis car-hire, train tickets, bus tickets, unless you genuinely know they are cheaper than when you get off the plane (possible).
8) Don't ever buy a scratchcard. Save your money and buy a big issue instead, you get better karma.
9) Know your rights will be trampled on should you be delayed / cancelled. Save money on expensive customer service numbers by smiling, for many, many hours should you be delayed, treating it instead as an unexpected bonus stay at your holiday destination!
I believe that is a check-list on how to pay sod-all extra to Michael O'Leary, whilst getting a very good value flight.

I have yet to experience a punctual flight with BA! Seriously, I work in the industry and BA leave a lot to be desired. They're known by many as Bloody Awful for a good reason!
All the points you criticised about Ryanair are 'common' knowledge. Their website states their baggage policies, extra charges for priority boarding, etc. Like it or not, Ryanair have revolutionised air travel. Other airlines are strict in enforcing their baggage policies too - I have seen BA tell First Class passengers to remove 1kg from their checked baggage!0 -
It is the loyalty to perceived cheap and not value for money or low total cost that keeps them going.
Where are people getting this rubbish from today?
I fly with low cost airlines because:
* They offer me a much greater choice of destinations
* They fly from my local airport, so I don't need to pay for a stopover at the airport hotel the night before
* I want to be able to choose what food I take on the plane, not have a nasty meal that is already included in the price of my ticket
* In every instance I have flown, they still work out cheaper than BA!
As an example, in mid July I can fly from Luton direct to Marrakech with Ryanair for under £122, including paying extra for luggage and Priority Boarding.
To fly on the same dates with BA, I would have to get to Heathrow, and it would cost me closer to £666, plus a stopover in Casablanca!
If BA were cheaper, I would happily fly with them.
So nothing to do with some low cost mentality, just good moneysaving! xGone ... or have I?0 -

I always take my own Sandwiches on flights , what are they gonna do throw you out for eating them ??? land and remove you for it ???? i have never been challenged for doing it , and if i was i would say i have a special diet due to medical conditions.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Not talking rubbish dmg24, flown may times from Gatwick on BA because it was cheaper than easyJet or Ryanair, offering very good value for money and a lower total cost of my holiday.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

But you have summed up my reason why they are more expensive for most of us - Gatwick is certainly not the most convenient airport for the majority of the country!Gone ... or have I?0 -
Whether it is convenient or not, the fact is there are good deals to be had on BA from Gatwick and that isn't rubbish.
To find good deals from regional airports, google the airport website and use the information provided on airlines and destinations to compare prices and find the best value for money, a bit of searching can often result in a good and convenient deal.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Ryanair [along with most low cost airlines] are buses with wings
Treat them as such & don't expect to be given anything other than passage from A to B - I think too many people still see air travel as something exclusive rather than a means of transport.
Just take it as face value & don't try to compare it with air travel of the past or fancy long haul trips on one of the big national carriers.
Nobody makes you click the 'pay now' button when you book all the extras are clearly spelled out, if it's not as all inclusive as you want, simply go elsewhere.0
