Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...0 -
ooh lets see. ASDA wal mart first
not spy on your staff and intimidate them if they want to join a union.
not emloyee child labour and sweatshop chinese labour to make your products
not make people do unpaid overtime
not fire people for having adult relationships with people they work with
contribute more than tuppance hapenny to your employees pension scheme
i could go on but i suggest you rent this , and make your own mind up

as for Ryan air.
how about not make their staff work like slaves for 16+ hours a day for slighty above min wage
not make them pay for their own training out of thier own pockets ( and then never leave a classroom let alone get near a plane)
not fire pilots for claiming to be to exhausted to fly after delays
not downgrade pilots for giving delayed passagers free drinks
the Channel 4 secret documentry was most eye opening.
heard enough ????? cause i tell you i don;t have to put up with things like that in my company and my Union would not let them even think of trying it
P.S i would also never buy a Silent Night bed either
er, by your own admissision- unless its cheap enough.
So basicly, you will boycot ASDA and RYANAIR unless the price suits. How will that help their staff?
It wont help their competitors either, you are a Ryanair and Asda customer.
Buying a penny flight drives the price up so someone else is paying more, increases their market share and means you are 1 less passenger for their competitors. Same for ASDA. Dont fool yourself- you arent hurting them, you are helping them.
Im the same, easily bought-I just dont kid myself on I have some moral highground.
The only way to hurt them is to completely boycot them.
2 be honest, I hope your Union has slightly stronger members than you, otherwise it DEFINETLY could happen in your company.0 -
The point here about a business treating its staff badly is that it affects safety by reducing motivation directly.
No simple price comparison demonstrates it.
But for example, have you noticed how fast these supposedly 'young' aircraft are ageing with bits of internal trim broken/missing/refitted out of line?
I think there are lots of new problems with the time is money model.
Here's just a few:
1) Flight crews work too long on a discretionary basis just to get home when operational delays occur.
2) Aircraft brakes don't get enough time to cool properly after landing before taking off again (when they might be needed to perform without degradation in case of emergency abort). They are then stowed in the wheel well at goodness knows what temperature.
3) Aircrew have their duty time on the ground limited to maximise their time in the air. That might sound ok but it means they are constantly rushing to plan their flights and many additionally become seriously irritated by delays in the post-08/2006 security model. It seems to cause a kind of 'rage' akin perhaps to the 'road rage' in commuting motorists. It might explain a possibly increased incidence of pilots being 'shopped' for possible drink driving by security. Certainly there seems to be no love lost between these two types of aviation worker!
4) Baggage is not weighed for the purposes of flight planning, merely counted and estimated which can result in overweight aircraft which do not perform as planned.
5) Pilots barely get time to step outside the aircraft to have a good look at the aircraft. Why would they want to do that? Well there are good reasons why they should before every flight. However, more often than not, I think the 'walk round inspection' thesedays is done by a low paid baggage handler, but the baggage handler has no authority to recommend de-icing for example! De-icing costs a lot of time, and the de-icing fluid is very expensive. Pilots decide if they will or they won't.
6) It is relatively easy to damage an engine through mishandling. However, I wonder if there is time or culture to report anything other than obvious faults. For a fleet of similar type and series aircraft all less than 4 years old, I am often surprised at the different engine noises I hear under take off power.
7) Flying round the sky following standard air traffic patterns uses up time. Pilots are encouraged to constantly negotiate short cuts. Great if they are good at it.
8) Talking of shortcuts I read a report about a pilot opening an overwing exit door to check the upper wing surface (for ice?). Then unsurprsingly he couldn't shut it properly. Eventually while he was talking to base on the radio about it, a cabin crew member reckoned he could do it, and did (despite not being trained to secure it). Then they flew. No engineer in sight.
9) Maintenance. Crikey! Is there time for that? Certainly not for bits of non-essential internal trim it seems!
10) ...... I am sure there are lots more!
PS There is still a way of overcoming Sam Bees checklist item:
5) Pay by credit, erm, debit, erm Ryanair's credit, erm, !!!!!!, unable to get out of paying extra on this one .... get a VISA Electron card ... I actually asked Barclays for one just to stick it to Ryanair, but I would have had to give up my Connect Card which has other benefits apparently:-)0 -

i,m not kidding myself , like i said i do go to Asda , i have used ryan air , and boycotting does not make a bit a difference.
my point is they do treat there staff badly....if you argue otherwise then your the one who is kidding themselves not me . at least i know that .. the fact that i choose to be a customer is my problem ..the people that work for them have a to fight there own battles as far !!! i,m concerned
. i,m too much out for me and mine to back my opinions with my hard earned cash. guess thats make as bad as Mr O leary and the Walton family .. almost i least i admit i,m being selfish .
as for my company going down this road not a chance i,m afraid.... you will have trust me on that.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

I've been all over Europe thanks to Ryanair. I've always looked to see who's cheapest - the only rival has been Easyjet - so I go with them as well.
I'm sure if I lived near Gatwick I'd find BA cheapest for some routes, so would go with them.
However, one thing that the supporters of BA have not mentioned....... remember Freddie Laker & Skytrain?????? Put out of business by BA & the like as they did not like low price competition. Fortunately for all of us Ryanair & Easyjet could compete, so BA (& others) have been forced to lower permanently. Does anyone really think BA would have their cheap prices if Ryanair and Easyjet did not exist?
Choose to fly with them or not, but at least acknowledge the (lack of) debt we all owe them.
What we should really be discussing is why 1p flights to Belfast end up costing so much more than 1p flights to Spain - it's the govt taxes & charges, particularly if flying within the UK, that add to the costs, not cups of coffee.
Finally, aren't BA charging extortionate amounts for more than 1 bag?????A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Leave Michael O'Leary (and Stelios) alone!!!!!!!!
.....Choose to fly with them or not, but at least acknowledge the (lack of) debt we all owe them.
I'll give them credit for breaking the mould, but I don't see too many similarities between Ryanair and EasyJet. Stelios Iannou is famously of Greek origin, yet EasyJet operates a fleet of aircraft on the UK CAA register. The CAA are respected regulators. Compare to Ryanair.
When problems with the runway at Bristol were identified in December/January after a few interesting 'incidents', EasyJet were one of the first (if not the first to say "We are not using it till it's fixed".
When Stansted was being resurfaced last year, and runway lighting capacity was downgraded (dimmed) to a level deemed legally unsafe to use by certain aircraft types in certain weather conditions, which airline were caught continuing to land illegally in those conditions, not once, but on perhaps four occasions?
It is ok to push for changes, but it is not ok to erode safety margins in relentless pursuit of the profit God. It remains to be seen whether the new model is safe enough or whether we have just been lucky so far.
Most of us are none the wiser, but are certainly learning how to be pushier (to get pole position in the boarding queues!) - consequently older wiser, more polite airlines are struggling and newer pushier ones are snaffling market share.0 -
That's just it though - IMHO BA are not any wiser than Ryanair (apart from when I got upgraded to Club Worldpeterbaker wrote: »older wiser, more polite airlines are struggling and newer pushier ones are snaffling market share.
). The service I've had from them has been no better or worse than Ryanair, TBH I think 1/2 the staff are 1/2way up their own ars*s
.
Also, if you sit in row 1 on Ryanair you get to hear the gossip during takeoff & landing......... don't feel too sorry for the staff, sounds to me like they have plenty fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I have just booked my flight with BA.
Easyjet was £184 return per person
BA was £138 per person.
BA also upgraded me one way for £5 per person... considoring this means you get to eat and drink snacks in an airport lounge and on the plane, this is a great deal (My partner and i would roughly spend a fiver each for a drink each and a muffin at the weatherspoon pub in the airport).
I hate the free for all thats associated in the budget airlines, i hate seeing how respectible people can turn into very nasty people to ensure they get on the plane first to get extra leg room, or seats together - i have myself been there, and it ruins the experiance.
I worked it out that i could fly buisness class both ways with BA (on this particular flight) for only a small bit more than easy jet charged.0 -
Ryan air has made travel easier and cheaper for someof us who can fly from their nearest airport to European cities. So far safety is concerned -then I think it is better than national rail and why to worry about a sandwich for a 2 hr flight.
