Wow, I can’t believe I haven’t been on the forum since 14/02, I’m sure it was February the last time I looked :-S

Great to see so many new people dropping by – a big hello to PeppaPuss, doris_moose, TwinMummy2Be, starpod and lilmissworry and congratulations!

Sounds like everyone is making great progress and continuing to do MSE-ers proud by finding some great bargains. Sounds like Debenhams and BHS have some good sales for bridesmaids’ dresses so I’ll definitely have to check them out. I was thinking high street rather than bridal salon but didn’t know where to start.

SavvyOoze – I think your list of things to think about seems pretty comprehensive to me, but perhaps I’m not the best person to ask! I think that if something doesn’t immediately spring to mind then perhaps it isn’t that important in the grand scheme of things (but ask me again the day before my wedding when I’ve forgotten loads of stuff! :D). That being said, are you going to have wedding rings? Do you need accommodation for yourselves or guests?

Wannabe – that’s horrible news about the redundancy, that must have been really stressful :( But great to hear that everything is now back on track :D

Nightsky224 – I feel your pain about the suits! We’ve decided not to hire in the end as we didn’t find anything we particularly liked. We’ve decided to buy OH a suit and ask the four (!) best men to wear something they already have and we will buy them the shirts, shoes and ties. Admittedly, this will probably end up at least as expensive as hiring, but at least we will have what we want. We also have the option of being MSE and waiting for sales :o

Lilmissworry – Zante – that sounds lovely :o Which town will you be getting married in? It’s funny about holiday memories – I want to Zante years ago with an ex who was so hungover one day that he was ‘travel sick’ for a whole day on a bus tour around the island. So embarrassing........ and not as nice as your memories :D

So the dress has arrived, two months early! I didn’t expect it so early, so I was strangely nervous when it turned up, especially given my rather reckless decision regarding its purchase! But I’m pleased (and relieved) to say that I like it and its lovely, although it will need some alterations to the top half, but I was expecting that. I did have a bit of a wobble when I first tried it on – I was on my own and didn’t have a long mirror so I couldn’t see what it really looked like. I started to feel a bit stressed so I’m afraid to say that I had to get the OH to have a look at it  He had already seen it online and reassured me that it looked ok, so all’s well that end well J

PeppaPuss – I bought the dress from a dressmaker on Etsy (the American crafts website). I was pleased with her and think the workmanship on the dress was great, given the price (about £300). Her page is called Ting Bridal, if you’re interested.

As there’s a fair few of us in the thread now, maybe I can add a list of names and wedding dates to the first page so we can count down to everyone’s big days :o

    Hey

Has anyone sent out invites yet? My family is bugging us to send them out, but we haven't even made them yet! April seems a tad too early for a wedding end of October...Are we wrong?

Has anyone else sent there out yet? Or when are you planning to?

    Hiya
I haven't even made my invites either - eek.
I've been married before and last time we sent them out 6 weeks before the Wedding, now I am worried!
I thought that as long as you indicated the date e.g. Save the date then 6-8 weeks was ok.

I must come on again and update on how we are doing - lots of bits sorted now but still lots to do (including invites lol) also our hotel Wedding coordinator has left, we found out Saturday so am a little anxious!

    Hope everyone is doing ok.:)

Hello! And hello to my date triplets!!

I got my flowers at the weekend - using artificial flowers. Bought them at a big floristry cash and carry and got mine, 2 bridesmaids bouquets and 2 baskets for the flower girls, ribbon and pins for £45. :j

My OH is still trying to decide between a kilt and a suit.

I went to price a wedding ring and nearly passed out  my engagement ring is a funny shape, so I want one that fits round it. I am going to get it anyway, it's £750ish, in platinum, but I only paid £34 for my dress from eBay, so that is my justification!! It's the one thing I will wear forever, so may as well splash out a little. :o

My OH wants to make the invitations, but I'm not sure what he wants....I have given him until 24th April and if he hasn't made them by then, I'll be doing them myself. I will probably send my invitations out 8-10 weeks before the wedding.

    Happy planning everyone :) xx

    Hello hello :)

We've sent out save the date emails, but no invites yet. I'm not sure what the etiquette is either - maybe 3 or 4 months before? There's no way of pleasing everyone I guess. Some people have said to us that they don't like getting invites too early (as they forget) and others don't want it too late (as they get booked up) :-S

I think we're going to send invites electronically, but that's because we're lazy :D

Hope planning is going well for everyone - the 6 months to go countdowns are beginning!

We have managed to get OH's suit (we're buying rather than hiring) and are going to give our notice at the local council office on Monday. I met today with a seamstress for my dress alterations and I ended up jabbing myself with a pin and getting a suprisingly large amount of blood on my dress :( I should be able to soak it and get it out. The seamstress said that most people tend to spill red wine on their dresses (*before* the wedding!), but blood is a new one for her ;-)

    Hi Wee Smiler,
Well done on the flowers I think I want to go with artificial flowers but not sure where to start. Did you make them up yourself or were they already done, can I ask where the cash and carry is, would love to look (I am in Hertforshire and getting married in Derbyshire)

I'm also making the invites, had a complete melt down a week or so back as was trying to make it too complicated. Have changed the design - very simple and just waiting for supplied to arrive, should cost us around £35 am happy with that. How are your invites getting on?
Recently married and loving it x
  • I'm also getting married on 5th October and it'll be an outdoor ceremony - time will tell if that bites us in the bum!

    So far we have sorted:

    Dress and shoes
    BM dresses and pashminas
    Venue
    Photographer
    Flowers
Accommodation arrangements for the night before
Sending out invites (95% of people will need to stay over so we wanted to give them a chance to sort themselves out!)
Cake topper (made by me and not too shabby)
    Music

    In progress:

    Place settings/favours
    DIY photo booth
    Suit hire
    Table numbers
    Playlist
    Choosing the food
Sorting out readings etc to give to registrar
Thinking about what cake to get
    Sorting out joint stag/hen do
    Hairdresser (trial booked for July)

It feels like there's still a lot to do but hopefully it'll get done somehow... think we'll be checking the list at the weekend to see what needs doing next!

    Hello nightsky,

The cash and carry I used is just on the outskirts of glasgow, so not so handy for Hertfordshire! However, it's called Country Baskets, and I think they have branches all over. I got a membership card online. I got two bridesmaids bouquets already made up, I will just wrap some ribbon round the stems. I bought individual flowers to make my own bouquet, I will just arrange them and hand tie them and cut them all to the same length.

OH still hasn't shown me his invitation idea...goodness knows what he is up to! I've got tons of craft stuff in the house anyway, so if he doesn't come up with anything, I've probably got enough to make my invites. I bought blank place cards on eBay for around £5.

I've been trying to avoid melt down status!! However, I can't seem to find shoes anywhere  I'm sure ill find something, and if not, I'm wearing my trainers :D

I feel your pain - I have 'back up' shoes but a bit worried that I won't find the 'right' shoes. I do have some trainers already lined up for the evening though..... :D

What colour/style are you thinking of? I'm looking for green and mary jane style, which probably doesn't help.....

Still feeling a bit nervous about my rash dress choice, but there's no going back now! What's the worst that could happen? ;-)

You could go to try it on after an evening of excitement picking out matching accessories only to find out that the lovely squiggly sequin design across the midsection bore a more than passing resemblance to a certain part of the male anatomy?!

Hi all! Another October wedding for the list (the 3rd) but we're sneaking off to Vegas so don't have very much to worry about- apart from dressticles!
