October 2013 brides and grooms

Hello! :)

I'm a long-time lurker but first-time poster. I've been trawling the forum for a while now and have been really grateful to everyone who has posted their money-saving ideas as I start thinking about my wedding next October.

I couldn't find an October 2013 thread so I thought I'd start one up to encourage people to come out of hiding - unless I'm the only person getting married next October of course! :rotfl:

Hope to speak to you soon!

  • Hi

    I'm an October bride :) 30 October 2013

    Venue booked, and dress brought!
  • Oo oo oo thats me I am an October 2013 Bride!!!!

    So Far
Venue booked (Will be getting married and reception there and they provide the catering)
    Registrar - Provisionally booked
Dress - Bought (100 or so brand new dresses were donated to a charity shop, so they set up a bridal shop upstairs) it cost £500 which is more than I wanted to spend but I fell in love with it and anyway the others that I sort of liked from bridal shops were about 1.5k. The dress is by Ian Stuart and when it was a new design about a year or so ago it cost 1.5k so am more than happy. Just needed to get it slightly altered now but that can wait.
Next things I a thnking about are bridesmaids dresses and suits for the men - can't believe how expensive the mens stuff will be!

Any who hello to all the Oct 13 brides

  • Woohoo! Welcome aboard trudiuk and nightsky224!

I was worried that I might be the only one and end up talking to myself so glad to meet some more Octoberites :j

You guys are a bit more organised than me - we have a venue and registrar booked, but that's about it! I think our problem is that we're not really too sure what we want, wedding-wise, so don't really know where to start. This includes what type of dress I want to wear :-S We're going to try and DIY as much as possible, so I guess we don't need to book too much in advance.

Luckily I have a BM who recently got married so she's trying to whip me into shape :rotfl:

And our wedding date is 26th october 2013 - so one year today!

  • So although there isn't many of us yet I thought I would give a quick update and see how you two were gettingon.

I have booked my DJ £250, not sure if that’s a good pricebut he is really familiar with the venue and have heard good things so went forit.

Am looking at bridesmaid dresses, they are on ebay at about£50 each (I will need 2) have asked the seller if they can send samples.

In the process of sorting my save the dates to send out inxmas cards. Am using some name card badges that come on A4 sheets that I gotfrom a local craft recycling place for £0, borrowed a stamp from my mum (cutsout card rather than stamps on) £0 and work have let me print them here £0,they look quite nice actually am really pleased.

Hope all is going well for everyone else,

Next tasks for me are – Get OH to try on suits to see whathe likes so we can get a budget, book the Barn Dance band, get costs forwedding rings

  • Bridesmaid dresses found and bought from debenhams. We got them full price in the high street, got home and they were cheaper online, so bought them online and returned the ones to the high street. 2 weeks later debenhams had a bigger online sale and they were even cheaper! So bought them again and returned the other ones. 3 bridesmaid dresses originally costing £95 each, bought for £42.50 each :) and my bridesmaids are paying for them!

I was not orginally going to have bridesmaids as could not afford to, and would rather spend the money on other things, but my friends and sister wanted to be so I told them they had to pay for them selves and they are! This may sound wrong, but is bridesmaids are on my 'would like' list not my 'must have' list for weddings.

Have also found our wedding rings. We can afford them at full price, but are waiting to see if they drop in price in the janaury sales. Every little helps!

Then I suppose should start thinking about invites, transport, table decorations, flowers, suits, and the rest of my outfit!

Only 10 months and 24 days to go :)
  • Hi ladies another October 2013 bride here :)

So far we have booked the venue, the DJ and photographer. We have sorted out the cake and bought a few bits for the table.

It seemed ages away but its really starting to creep round :D

    Hey roseyscott, welcome.

We have just written the longest list with EVERYTHING that we need to do, its a bit daunting but am glad we did it. Feel a bit better as kept remembering/forgetting things.

We applied for our licence the other day, expected a grilling but it was really quick have to wait a few days and then they send it to us and we have to send it on the the registrars office near where we are getting married, all so exciting.

Wish I could find bridesmaid dressesd/colours though. Was going for burgundy (deep red) but everything seems to be more of a deep purple.

How are you guys all getting on?

  • I haven't even started looking at dresses yet.

Me and my OH are off away for a few days in a couple of weeks so we are going to use our time away to do our list of things to do. Although we have quite a lot sorted already.

The one thing I am really struggling with is invitations, I think I am far too fussy.

Have you looked about online for burgundy dresses? I have found a few along the way.

That's a good idea we drank a few glasses of wine whilst doing it and that helped lol! Have looked online and ordered samples but they never seem to be the right colour.

Are you going to make your invites or buy? I made my save that dates but am not very creative so not sure if making them is a step too far for me!
