Lastnight I called abbey asking they refund some of my bank charges on my previous statement, they waived half of these and now I realise i may be in a bad position as it seems people are claiming all their previous charges. Can I no longer claim for these now that they've refunded some?
Please help,I can't believe I may have ruined my chance.0 -
Please help
I wrote to Abbey ages ago, and its well past the 40 day mark and still no statements or acknowledgement of a statement:eek:
I need to let them know that i am reporting them to the information commissioner but i cant find a number to call Abbey on, aside from their normal call centre number.
Does anyone have one or any advice on how i can get the statements?0 -

In you position I would write a letter to the Mananger at your local branch and send it recorded delivery. Assuming that the 40 days have lapsed and they have cashed your cheque, I am sure that by return of post you will find your statements. If not then there is an address for the Information Commissionar on this website where you can pursue your claim . Good luck ,they are slimey toads IMO0 -
The Abbey will take their time over everything you ask them for. They will fob you off ( or try to ) with letters stating that things are taking over the 40 days etc and they have to investigate everything thoroughly.
Be careful with them, send everything by recorded delivery and any phone calls document them with the persons name you spoke to.
I am just about to start mcol with them for £568 plus costs etc,and all they have done so far is to tell me that i am not entitled to anything and provided me with details of financial ombudsman!!
I am fully prepared for the fight as i know i will win, however i am expecting to work for my money.Thing that troubles me is after all this do i want to be with a company that has complete disregard for its customers.Other threads show how other company,s have settled and it all seems amicable, whilst the Abbey are a disgrace, and would seem to be the hardest to deal with.0 -
I think this is the correct thread to post this in, if not please accept my appologies.
Last week I sent a letter to Abbey along with my £10 requesting my last 6 years bank statements. Today I received 1 years statements and there doesn't appear to be any bank charges on there even though I have paid bank charges.
Has anyone else had the same problem, if so what did you do.
Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.0 -
I think the duplicate statement response about charges not showing is in response to complaints of 'missing' charges. People were receiving statements that looked different to usual as they had no 'pending charges' section on the bottom.
This clarifies that charges will not show in this manner as pending on copies but are actually shown on the back of the next months statement in the list of transactions.
The microfiche issue is pretty standard. Information pre-2004 is stored by some banks in this manner and is unreadable in that form. It just takes time to put into a readable format for you but you will get it.
Good luck
Thank you very much0 -
For all of you other unlucky people who are trying to get their bank charges from Abbey, please, please do not give up !!!
It took me from middle of January, but eventually got my cheque today (full details of my claim on the Success Thread).
You just need to keep chasing them, stick to your timescales, not theirs, and be peristent. You will get your money back !!
Great advice on this link, big thanks to Edinburghlass and Twinkly !

hi esmerellda
i need your advice, i to am claiming £5500 from abbey. So since the amount is over £5000 can my case be heard in the small claims court when i file online.
Also was your claim straight forward cause it seems abbey can be a little stubborn.
many thx0 -
Abbey are stubborn but they always pay up in the end.
In your allocation questionnaire you want to put a little bit about how the case is a matter of fact and as such should be heard in small claims...nab me when you get that far and I'll direct you to some help.
Make sure you send a copy of your list of charges to the court to be served with your claim - Northampton Bulk Processing AddressLegalBeagles0 -
Hi everyone out there!
I am at the stage where I have worked out my charges (£2500) from Abbey and have sent my 1st letter off last week, giving them 14 days to reply. I had a concern earlier that they might take away my overdraft facility. I have a £1400 overdraft and unfortunately am normally up to my limit every month!
Does anyone have experience of Abbey taking away their overdraft facility and if so do they have to give you notice in writing?
Many thanks,
Forbesy1000
