Doghead wrote:Dear all
I am new to this site, and I am trying to get my charges back from Abbey. I am finding it very hard to open an account at another bank, so do I really need to close my account with Abbey?
Any replies would be a great help!
Thank you
Rockchick
with me, it's not a case of closing my account myself but more in preparation of Abbey advising me they will no longer let me bank with them. I've had trouble in the past trying to open bank account and to be honest I was surprised when Co-operative Bank said "yes"0 -
Am in Court next Wednesday. Abbey have not responded to my suggestion that they pay the money back (by end of last week) and avoid going to court (and facing the addition of expenses), neither have they provided evidence for their defence. Has anyone else gone this far? There seem to be very few success stories here ...0

I am lodging my court claim against abbey tomorrow and am also surprised at how many people have to take it this far for abbey to pay up. Can't wait until this is all over!!0

Ok thanks, seems they just ignore us and think they can just send us these letters and expect us to pay up. I'll tell you what I'm not paying anymore to abbey ever again, there paying me from now on. Had enough of these big companies ignoring us.0

Well the SHABBEY have surpassed themselves.I wrote to them on 15th January this year claming £577 plus £129.16 interest for the last 6 years charges.Got the usual response as per this site,of we are looking into your complaint etc etc
Today my account has been refunded the princely sum of ......£35 :rotfl:
After the usual offshore call centre confusion as to how this sum was in my account, the Banking Specialist Team informed me that this was in response to my complaint and this was the finalisation of it,a single refund for a charge from December 2006!!
I verbally told them that i would without prejudice accept this as part payment, but unless the full amount was paid within 7 days then i would be applying for the funds through the county court.I also told them the reason why in respect of the unfair terms in Consumer contract regulations
I asked for the call to be noted and that the above be noted on my file, and obtained the name of the person i spoke to.
I am going to follow this up with a letter sent reg post clarifying my position.
Abbey really need to wake up and smell the coffee.I dont have any overdraft with them and owe them nothing but they owe me!!
Do i keep the £35 somewhere or spend it as i normally would?0
