Lots of people have issued court claims against Abbey and won - have a good read around so you know what to expect - there is nothing to be scared of.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Hey it is scary at times, but just remember that its your money and they are the ones that have OVERCHARGED you. I have read many many claims against all the banks including Abbey and what I notice is that they offer a settlement a few days before. Keep your head up stick to your dates and read this for some comfort.

Stick in there and don't let them get to you

  • Yesterday I got the 14 months worth of statements through the door, and the letter saying the rest are on microfiche. This is after I sent the request letter on the 19th of January. Thier letter said they recieved it on the 24th. Do I start the '40 days to respond' clock ticking from the 19th or 24th?

Another question (that I think I know the answer to):
-Can you claim back interest charged while overdrawn?

Abbey say the information for 2001-2005 will be forthcoming, has anyone got thier 'microfiche archived' data back within the 40 days yet?

    Thanks for any help.
P.S. SMILE have yet to respond to the letter I sent to them on the same day...
  • 40 days should start when you reckon they receive the letter, same with any time frame you set them as practically you can't expect the bank to receive the letter the same day you post so its best to add in a couple of days.

    No :)

I got all of mine back 25 days from the point that they received my SAR letter. 3 days before they arrived I was told that I would have to wait 12 weeks. So you never know.

My question is can i send one letter claiming for both accounts or does it have to be done Separately for each account?

Include both account numbers on your letters now. Also send two seperate lists of charges with each letter, each one clearly marked with the account number it represents.

  • Hi, I've just opened up a bank account with co-op in anticipation of Abbey closing my account down after I've made the claim for the recovery of bank charges. However, which address should I send my letter and £10 chq to?
    many thanks

  • Dear all

I am new to this site, and I am trying to get my charges back from Abbey. I am finding it very hard to open an account at another bank, so do I really need to close my account with Abbey?

Any replies would be a great help!

    Thank you
