I requested copy statements from Abbey for both accounts in the last 6 years on Nov 24th, paying them £20. On Dec 19th received recent 9 months statements on only 1 account but no more to date.

I called Abbey and they insist they were posted 13th December and must be stuck in Xmas post!? Oh and each statement comes seperatley!! So 6 years of statements on 2 accounts = 144 envelopes and 135 of those have gone missing!!!!

"They are very busy, but they will issue them again", are they using delaying tactics?

What can I do now? Any advise is appreciated.

From what you've said, I'm not sure that you've requested your charges under the Data Protection Act.

If you have done this, they have 40 days in which to comply. When that time is up, you should let them know they are in breach and also inform the Data Commissioner. It should also be a £10 maximum charge.

If you've not requested under the DPA then you need to make this request, otherwise you will not be able to force them to provide the charges.
  • I requested copy bank statements from 2 accounts for the last 6 years from Abbey National on 24th Nov 06. I received on 19th Dec 06 9 months of statements from 1 account but nothing else to date.

I have chased them a couple of times to be told that they are vey busy, the statements have been produced and are probably held up on the post!? Each statement comes sererately!! 6 years statements for 2 accounts = 144 envelopes, received 9, so 135 envelopes missing!?

Due to 2 redundancies over the last few years I dread to think how much I have paid them, in the 9 months statements received that totals £1350:eek:

Can anyone advise what I do now? Are the Abbey delaying my case?
  • Thanks Nickmack, I have requested all info to be supplied under the DPA and stated that they had 40 days to respond. I prsumed it was £10 per account - there I go again giving them more money!
  • put in claim for over 650 .abbey offered 475 ,didnt read letter properly and excepted it .seems 475 included charges of 210 pending .so now 475 turns into 265.as i had excepted 475 to close the matter does anyone know if i would be able to start clain again for remainer thanks
  • hola,

i filled a claim on money claim on sunday night for the abbey, i have today received a letter dated 5th january offering me 25% of the full amount. what do i do? should i write to the abbey and say it is accepted as part payment only but court proceedings will continue for the remainder? do i need to contact the court? or should i just ignore it and await to be contacted by the court? or do something which i haven't thought of....

I am also with Abbey.. for all my sins!!

I have spoken to a couple of the companies who say they will claim the charges back on your behalf and all of thenm have said that abbey is one of the worst to deal with, they leave everything until the last moment and take ages to reply to everything and just use every stalling tactic they can. The only ones which are worse are Barclays and Lloydstsb.

Eventually though they do usually pay up.. because every minute that money is in their account it is earning them interest so they don't want to give you it too soon.

Carrielouise80 I would accept it in [art but keep on at them for the rest.. they usually cough up once you threaten courts... or so I was informed.

I checked my account today and they have bounced a cheque despite the fact I have more than enough in to cover it simply because it did not have the card number on the back!!!!! If they think I am being charged for that they can think again! This is what they do to us constantly, they are dreadful!!

  • Hi ALl, hope someone can help with this

i have started the ball rolling with recovering my bank charges and sent the bank the letter requesting the value + a list of all the charges etc etc

i got this letter in response today

Thank you for contacting us ... blah blah blah

"One of my team will be responsible for investigating your complaint and i have enclosed our complaints leaflet, which explains our procedure for doing this. high quality customer service is of great importance to us at abbey and we will do everything we can to resolve your complaint in a timely and satisfactory manner.

i know it is important to you that we resolve your complaint quickly, but we want to complete a thorough investigation and sometimes this can take time. if we have not contacted you before then, we will write to you in four weeks to let you know what is happening."

is this delaying tactics? if so what step should i take next?

    any help much appreciated

    tnaks in advance

  • Standard letter, if they haven't responded to you in your timescale move on with the next letter/stage.
  • Have just received a letter from Abbey on day 39.They state that all the transactions are on microfiche however under seperate cover they are sending archived transactions from 2001.Does anybody know if these will be copy statements or is it just lists which makes it difficult to work out the charges
