hi,
i have just sent off my first letter to abbey asking for details of charges or statements. Im really nervous about this as i was told abbey do not usually pay up.
if anyones dealt with abbey could i have some useful information on what to expect?
Also i have never had a overdraft facility and wanted to know if i could still reclaim for charges given to me for not having a overdraft facilty!!
thanks alot
i'll keep you posted on my progess0 -
Hi Guys. For the last few weeks I've been following Martin's steps, and having received 6 years statement information from Abbey, I've totalled up charges using the calculator on this site, and have written the first letter requesting full reimbursement of the charges plus interest.
Rather more swiftly than I thought, Abbey have written back to me, acknowledging my complaint, and that they are investigating it fully, which can 'sometimes take time'.
Maybe it's a case of the jitters, but having read some of the posts on this forum, I've not heard of too many who've had any success with Abbey. My question is... do i continue to wait to hear from Abbey, or do I pursue it on a tighter timeline? I suspect they may be delaying in anticipation of any announcement on what is deemed a reasonable charge to levy to customers who miss payments etc. This may be my paranoia or nerves!
Any advice, or testament to success with Abbey would be appreciated.0 -

My own research of the success thread up to 98 (ish) pages yielded the following stats:
Abbey National - 18 cases of which:
11 settled in full plus costs and interest after claim filed at court
5 settled in full before any court action neccessary
2 claimants went to the Financial Ombudsman and the banks paid in full for one and more than the amount claimed for the other but no reason for this is given in the post
1 case the claimant claimed £5,000 he had estimated as owing. The bank settled at £4,500. On receiving his details and checking he was only actually owed £1,000. There is no mention of them getting the overpayment back
I've received their letter yesterday advising my details are on their way after requesting them earlier this month so I'm personally just twiddling my thumbs for now.
As regards their 'taking some time' you can follow the timescales on the main article and dont have to follow Abbeys. Good luck0 -
Hi All
I am just about to make a claim to Abbey for £1400 but that does not include the interest I was charged each month. Should i have included that figure in my calculations as well? Appreciate your advice.

I couldn't find a thread on this so apologies if there's a more relevant thread somewhere.
What is the situation with additional charges since claiming?
I sent my schedule and charges to Abbey on the 30th January, I am now well into the MCOL stage of the claim - it was issued on the 22nd March.
Is there a point in the process or a process that allows me to add on charges accrued since the 30th January, and how might I go about this?
Thanks for any help...

Hi,
I sent my initial letter of to Abbey 3 weeks ago giving them 14 days to reply.
The responded stating they would get back to me within 28 days. Should I wait for the 28 days to elapse before sending them the 2nd letter or should I send that now?
Thanks for your help.0 -

Follow the timescales as advised on this site, not the banks timescales. I can guarantee that the next letter from Abbey will ask for another 28 days.
This is a suggested timetable posted by Twinkly on another thread:
40 days for the return of Data after initial request
14 days for the first letter reclaiming charges
14 days for letter before action and then you file your court claim
14 days for the bank to acknowledge the claim and notify intention to defend
14 days thereafter to actually defend0 -
For those of you who have helped me so far, i thank you.
i now have the next stage question.
i have received a letter of acknowledgement from the Abbey and their Solicitor has indicated that they intend to defend all of the claim. should i now start to get worried.
cheers
