    That was a joke right?
And if, you know, your history...
  • Hi there,

I've currently written Halifax two rather threatening letters, demanding my money back and so far it's been easy. I've been offered a partial settlement of £300 (this is under half what I'm owed), but I'm not happy with that and I'm considering the moneyclaim route after telling them my intentions again as a final warning and hoping they might give in.

I was just wondering, has anyone had any luck recliaming ALL their money without going through moneyclaim? Mainly i'm being cheap and don't want to spend the £80 fee just at the moment.
  • Hi, I'm new to this forum, I have requested that my last years statements and bank charges be sent to me, I have yet to recieve them although I only sent the letter last weekend.
A month ago, I recieved a letter stating that I was going to be charged £275 in bank charges, I went into the branch, they couldn't help me so I called Abbey Complaints Dept and within a couple of weeks they had re-credited my account by £85.00.
I still want to go ahead and claim the last 6 years charges , will I still be able to do this even though I have recieved money for last months charges.
If anybody has any tips on tackling Abbey specifically, please pass them on as I believe they are a very akward bank and are maybe not as forthcoming with charges as many of the others.

It does happen but not very often and its just hit and miss - whatever the bank decides to do on a case by case basis. If you have set a dealine and threatened court action there is not really anything else you can do that is likley to make them pay, other than go ahead and start legal proceedings. They should pay up fairly swiftly once you do that.

Yes you can still claim (although obviously not for charges they have refunded to you). I dont think there any Abbey-specific tips but check out Consumeraction website for specific info. They all have it in them to be akward but once you start with the court action they usually all pay up.

I do wish a lot of the people on this thread would read the earlier posts before re-posting the same things.

    1) (to earlier post) DO NOT start legal proceedings on anyone without being prepared to go all the way and attend Court to fight your corner.

    2) In response to the above comment, DO NOT ASSUME that what has happened in the past to others will happen to you - they may pay up BUT they may not.

They "should" pay up. Look up the word "should".

Please try to be constructive rather than rude and patronising.

You are misleading vulnerable people who are often quite scared about the whole thing - blindly encouraging them that it's all going to be fine is poor advice.

You need to carry out whatever you have specified in your letter. Many banks are now waiting for a claim before offering the full amount. They are hoping that your situation is typical and that the customer is too scared/lazy/skint to proceed with the claim.
