Hi
I have previously claimed £600 back from HSBC thanks to the info on this site. I now have another problem. I have a new basic account with halifax, and i received a letter today saying they are charging me £39 for a £1 direct debit that was unpaid. The letter is dated 1st may, and the money is coming out 8th may.
There is no way i can afford it to come out of my bank as im a carer for a family member and £39 is more than half of my weekly money.
What can i do about this? do i need to go through the whole letter thing or could i just ring them? do the same rules apply when its an unpaid direct debit?
Thanks for any advice, im sat here now wondering whether to ring them or not0 -
Can you help me!! I would like to know if I can claim back money for charges now that my Bank account is shut down?
Yes you can. Request statements/charges the normal way (template letter on this website) but include your name and address at the time of having the bank account. It would also help if you know your old account number?0 -
Natwest Solicitors have filed a defence.
The court have not sent me an allocation Questionare.
The solicitors have asked me to send all the letters and details, i sent to Natwest, i used all Martins template letters....Is this normal???0 -

Please could someone help?
I sent off my request for statements by recorded delivery on march 7th.
I have not recieved anything yet (and by my counting the 40 days were up today, 3rd may)
I called them on May 1st to ask if they had recieved it, I was told thatthey recieved it on the 14th April and have 40 days from then to respond.
I checked my recorded delivery code with Royal Mail which says that it was recieved on March 8th.
Where do I go from here? should I call up Barclays and complain again before contacting the information commisioner?
When does the 40 days actually start from? the date i send? the date it's recieved?
What do I actually have to say to the information commissioner?0 -
I have just had a (standard) letter from (Sh)Abbey to the effect that the charges are fair, legal, above board, etc. They actually said that the charges represent the ACTUAL COST to them of processing my overdraft excesses. Gosh, I'm starting to feel a bit guilty now. If the unpaid items and the O/D excesses on my account cost them that much, how much did it cost them to pay these legions of Managers who were so very busy looking into my request for a refund of changes? I must be making a HUGE impact on their P&L account.
Do you think I should offer to reimburse them the costs of investigating my claim? Am I being unfair to these people?
Tell you what. I instigated legal proceedings against them last week, as I'm getting confused by all this Abbey obfuscation. Why don't we let the Court decide who's right and who's wrong? I have been informed that they intend to defend this case (I think they say this for all cases). If I have my day in Court, I shall report it back to all you MSEs, and if I do lose my claim, I'll tell you where I went wrong. This will hopefully help all you Abbey claimants in your case against this Bank. Heaven forbid that we should be unfairly claiming back unfair charges.

I have sent a letter to my branch of Barclays reclaiming charges. I have received a reply and and offer from their Customer Relations Department based in an any entirely different place. I wish to write back rejecting the offer. Do I reply to the Customer Relations Adviser or do I continue writing to the Branch I originally wrote to. I apologise if I am not doing this correctly.0
