can I claim on my current account, just had letter back saying they would give me no money as it is for creditcards only, is this correct?

You can claim on a current account and this but one attempt the banks usually make to wriggle out of paying. Follow the process and send the template letters sticking to the timescales. There is little point entering into the various arguements they will produce so save yourself the stress. They will pay whine and protest but always pay up eventually. Good luck :)

Hi, I'd really appreciate any advice on my situation.
I bank with HSBC and have £700 overdraft limit. Got paid monthly wages, then didn't realise I had gone over my overdraft (I'm now -£900). So, got charged £150.
But HSBC charged me while I was still overdrawn, so gone further over my OD.

Now, got paid again this month but my wages wasn't enough (because of charge). Now, had phonecalls from HSBC to say I'm being charged ANOTHER £150 this month. Told them not to take it coz it'll send me OVER my overdraft even more. They will not listen.

It's like a vicious cycle, I'm overdrawn because they charged me, so they charge me AGAIN the next month, so I go even more overdrawn.
I can see this happening for a few months. But had letter demanding full payment, or face closure of account.
I'm really scared about this. They're guna keep charging me and I dont have enough money to pay the charges. I can't borrow from anyone. I've applied for second jobs n bars etc to try pay the charges.

My situation at present; aged 21, work full-time but going to Uni in Sept. Live with parents, only outgoings are car payments (£167), insurance (40), rent to parents (100), phone bill (40) and odd things. Have cut down A LOT!

What can I do? PLEASE help.xx

First thing to do is stop your wages going into that account and dont pay any more charges. It will take a couple of weeks to open a basic bank account but probably before its time to be paid again. It might be an idea to speak to your employer to see if there is another way you can be paid just until you get another account running.

Start reclaiming now and if you have been charged before you need the details of this. HSBC have 6 years statements available to view online if you have internet banking with them. Follow the templates and timescales laid out in the main article and any help you need along the way ask here in the forum. there will be someone who has been there and done it and the HSBC thread is here for information and support.

Dont worry about repayment of the overdraft and inform them that you will not arrange payment until the charges are refunded since the account is currently in dispute. Repayment of the overdraft can eventually be arranged based on your incomings and outgoings. If they close your account it is no great loss as you can always get another one for payment of wages and any essential direct debits.

I realise this is probably very scary for you right now but please dont worry too much . The situation can be resolved and you will be better off in the long run. Dont stress yourself looking for another job to pay bank charges. They will threaten and bully but ultimately there isnt much they can actually do to you. You are entitled to them back and it is only a matter of time before you get them.
    Good luck :)

Hi all, I sent my first letter of to Citicards on reclaiming my late payments and i got my reply yesterday saying on the 5th April 06 OFT reasoned that there charges where to high so thet lowered their charges to £12 in June 06. They also go on to say that when challenged in court the cases have all resulted in the claims being dismissed and the courts have implicitly held that the policy is fair and the charges reasonable, being in line with both the OFT guidance and common law principles of damage for breach of contract.

What do i do now? As i'm from N Ireland i'm a little worried about the case that they defended in N Ireland.
    Who i'm taking on
RFS Ltd asked for £835.43 paid out £?

Citi Cards paid out £960, Halifax Cards paid out £200 Woolwich paid out £1000, Abbey paid out £3223, Ulster Bank paid out £4675, Sterling Credit paid out £100, Studio Cards paid out £264,Birmingham Midshires paid out £960.

  • Hi
Claiming over £600 back from Capital One and they have offered £168.00 and state that it is the difference between the £20 and £12 charge. I am not happy with this, can i claim back the full amount? Also i want to state in my next letter, if you didnt charge me so much i would never be in the situation i am in now. They have sent it to a debt collection agency
