  • I am at the end of my plea to recieve my bank charges, I recieved a letter form the woolwich for a settlement of £985.00, although my bank charges came to 1320.00. I was satisfied with this amount as i was told you could only get 70% back, but then i heard on the radio you can get the full amount back. Does anyone know what it actually is?? i need some advice
  • Hi, I am considering applying for charges that have been levied on my phone company account. However, i just would like your views/opinions first. The charges were not really excessive, over the last 5 years, started off at 2pounds,then 5pounds,and currently 7.50p, however, added up comes to about 100pounds.As they are not huge amounts,is it worth going for,as the courts might favour them in saying that they were reasonable charges. The way i see it though, is that the my phone company have still penalized me for late payments though. So any views will be gratefully appreciated. Thankyou.

When it comes to issuing the letter for charges (listed), can this be delivered to the local banch and obtain a signature from them when you drop it by hand, or is it best to send to your branch??

Hi, i did just that, handed in my letter to local bank.Waited 40 days, then did a follow up letter to their registered main office, gave them a further 7 days for the data, said to them that they have breached my right under the D.P.A. by not supplying me with the information. Now,they are sending me the statements, albeit,in small bundles. So. good luck

Can anyone tell me of any experiences with the following banks.- I am trying to find out who makes it difficult and if any just pay up.

    Natwest
    First Direct
    Lloyds
    Egg
    Capital One

Have sent all my first letters out - how long can I expect to wait till they reply.

Have had a list of charges from Capital One. So next letter gone out. How long now?

    Hi Kimmie,

I'm claiming back from First Direct to the tune of £8134. I've got as far as MCOL and have discovered in the last 2-3 days that First Direct intend to make a defence of the claim.

Hope that helps explain what FD's procedures are !!
    Reclaims in progress:

    Smile: Claimed £3124 Paid: £3124

First Direct: Claimed £8178 Paid: Court date 14th Aug

    MBNA CC: Awaiting statements

Thanks Jester. Thats interesting to know. Hope it goes well, seems from what I have read, it's only a matter of course before they all pay up. Good luck - stick to it!
  • hi I have an old barclays account that is closed I accept that i was terrible at keeping it in credit , however i have been charged but dont have any record of these charges and how much they are, can i still claim. On a better note I have been Charged £39 by Halifax today for a Direct Debit that didnt come out ( AA put wrong Bank details) phoned them finally got them to refund me but was told it will take 14 days to get money back and they think I should be grateful that im getting it back never mind the fact they took it straight away and i have t owait 2weeks.

Can anyone tell me how quickly (or slowly) Capital One are to respond to a claim with charges listed? ALso are they difficult to deal with and what kind of reaction did you get from them? Just so I am prepared!

I got an offer from capital one only a couple of weeks after sending a request. However, the offer was less than half my claim so I've today gone through MCOL which apparently speeds them up further and there's a chance I'll get interest too.

Lloyds are notoriously pants and most people I've read about end up filing through the courts BUT they do seem to get the charges back within days of the court hearing being announced.

I'm trying to be patient and am weirdly enjoying getting my post every day now when for the last three years I've had severe Post Fear (I once had a panic attack when there was so much post it had three elastic bands holding it together.) Now I want payment for that panic!
    Very best of luck.
NatWest 1st account £985 refunded 2nd acount £5500 refunded (full amounts!)
LLOYDS TSB £1500 refunded (full amount)
MBNA VISA 1st letter requesting list of charges 02/03/07
MORGAN STANLEY FULL AMOUNT refunded £235!!
CAPITAL ONE offer of £96 MCOL 28/04 MAY 25th FULL AMOUNT £309.85
NATWEST VISA £515 FULL AMOUNT REFUNDED
HALIFAX LBA CLAIMING £2376.31MCOL 08/05 SETTLED£2496.31 FULL AMOUNT REFUNDED

    All in all - £11,420+

    Hi there,

I have just actioned a MCOL and am now terrified I am claiming £801 from Natwest and have so far had no reply to my previous 2 letters although I sent them registered post and Natwest Customer relations team have said they have got them, I just think maybe I will be the one who breaks the precedent and ends up even deeper in debt, i just don't understand why they acknowledge and settle some before MCOL stage and not others also I have sent MCOL to the address I have been coresponding with as I was told this was the correct place to send to via Natwest do you think it matters?

many thanks to anyone who may be able to help
  • Hi everyone,

I'm in the predicament of not having the money available to make a small claims court application...!

I can't seem to spot any threads about using the Financial Ombudsman Service..... Are they useless? Has anyone had dealings with them to reclaim bank charges?
