My husband is claiming £275.00 from Tesco Credit Card and received an offer this morning of £62.54.

It states at the end of the letter -

'For the purposes of the Financial Ombudsman Scheme you may consider this letter the Banks final response.'

Does this mean he should accept the amount as he won't be offered another.

    Help appreciated....

Hi, I was just wondering if "14 days" we state in our letters to the banks is working days or including weekends and Bank Holidays?

It makes a big difference, plus, if you start court action, then receive a letter from the bank, you may lose your court fee (£80 or £120).

I can see from some of the comments above that this may have happened to a few people.

    What's the deal?

    Richard (claiming £1500 from HSBC)
I left 4wks after sending my 2nd letter threatening court action and still got an offer after starting court proceedings (due to lack of funds) so I'm not sure if it matters

Last week I started the court process against my bank as I didn't hear from them and today is the day that the court considers the papers served. However this morning I had a letter from the bank offered me £100 less than my claim of £700. I'm tempted to accept this offer for speed but what happens to the £80 I paid to start the court process? Do I lose that £80 or do I have to take it all the way to get my £80 back. From the looks of the letter (which doesn't have a date on it) it's possible that the letter was sent before they got the court papers

You can try ringing the bank and negotiating for a higher settlement as you have already filed at court and are entitled to the full amount & interest & costs now. Good luck getting more :)
  • Hi this is first time I,ve used ,

Am trying to claim back bank charges from Halifax , sent 1st letter to them requesting copy of statements 36 days ago, called them thismorning and they have said it may take upto 10 weeks to send out !!

Is this a stalling tactic ? i thought they had to reply within 40 days , can I do anything more to force the issue with them ?
Answers that have worked for you greatly appreciated

Thanks Twinkly. That's what I'm trying to do if I can get through to them. I'm gonna say I'll take the lower amount (which is the total of the charges minus the interest so about £90 less) provided they add £80 to cover the court costs
  • Hi all ok ive had my statments from abbey and sent of the letter asking for charges to be repaid on the 5/4/07 dose the 14 days start from the 5th or the 6th just that they never recived the letter untill the 10th sent recorded. Today i recived the normal fob off letter from abbey say it will take 4 weeks bla bla bla if the date goes by the 5th then there 14 days are up and what would i need to do next.
  • I have received my statements from cahoot and not all the charges are listed!
Has anyone else had this problem?
  • I sent off my letter to Marbles claiming back costs of £163.27 but they have written back saying that they will not be paying as it is in their Terms and Conditions - what do I do next.
  • Is anyone claiming back their charges from Barclays? I have just posted my 2nd letter to them and I wondered how anyone else got on but I looked on the success stories thread and there were practically none about Barclays. I don't have lots to claim back in comparison to a lot of people, but enough to make me really want it to go as quickly as possible. From 2 accounts (joint & sole) I'm claiming £720 + interest (£897.22 altogether).

If they have replied to your 1st letter just carry on with your 2nd letter
