hi,
yes, i sent something similar, threatening to report to the infomation comissioner, but to be honest a letter any of these bodies will be enough to secure statements. I think the banks are just being overwhelmed by us all! they did not plan on having to deal with all this. :-)
great site this!

Maybe you should send another letter (recorded delivery) stating that these statements are rightfully yours and you would like to receive them within a certain time limit. The banks are not patient with their customers when they demand something.0

Just a quick note - I do feel sympathy for the bank workers behind the desk. When asking for statements the bank clerk said "are you claiming your charges back" in a quiet wisper. I said yes, she said "good for you - me and my husband are doing the same".
These people, although working for the banks are also being ripped off - proves the banks have no support even for their own workers.0 -

i got £1150 back from natwest and was in the branch the other week withdrawing it (moving it to a high interest acc). i wanted to close the account as was paying a silly "monthly service charge" and the fellow behind the till says go over to the customer service desk-they can do that. so over i go, and by pure chance in strolls the postman with a pile of recorded delivery letters as long as your arm! i said "must be everyone wanting thier money back? as a joke and the customer service lady almost burst into tears!
i felt so sorry for the lovely lady, she is only doing a job and must have to put up with loads of horrible people, thats partly why i do it all by post, less stress all round i guess.0 -

When working for Lloyds TSB, almost every other customer I spoke to wanted to request 6 years worth of statements or 'discuss' charges. I simply had to toe the line and state that we were being lenient on many occasions blah blah blah. I was very good at turning these people around very quickly but I did feel sorry for them deep down, I just knew that any complaint I escalated would fall on deaf ears and I would have it thrown back at me.
The only time I wasn't willing to help was when a customer told me 'I' had taken money and they began to make the argument personal.0 -
look everyone - an insider
quick, lynch him!
only joking of course, i am after nationwide myself - by post :-)0 -
Thanks everyone for your quick replies, will send another letter from the template, and copies,by recorded deliver. Do you think it would make any difference whether I sent it to the branch or to the address in Scotland.
